Wheel Stud replacement help
 

i broke off one of the studs on my back right and want to replace it. does anyone know how i would go about this? i spent all night trying to take it apart because the stupid sheild is in the way of just wacking the stud off and replacing it with another. i tried taking everything apart but for some reason after i thought i had it still wouldnt come off. any ideas?

forum member "clyde" managed to grind a small amount off of the head to get the new stud to slide through the gap behind the hub

the only other way is to remove the rear hub, which is how Mazda or any other mechanic would do it

careful because if memory serves me correct lots of the suspension has to come apart for that and some of the rear......we tried it once on kelrx-8's car and got stuck on that issue......there are also some special mazda tools that might be needed

i tried taking it apart and the hub wouldnt come off.... so i took it 2 a place and they said i had to take off the axle??? still havent done anything yet..... (considering they said it was going 2 be $300 to fix which i think is ridiculous) and i couldnt do it myself.... so does anyone have a better description of how to change the stud? because i dont think the axle needs to be taken off....? or does it?

Rear Wheel Stud Replacement
 

I know this is an old post, but I just went through this like a week ago. Rear stud was stripped and I had to replace it.

I cut the old one off and had to grind about 1/4 of the back of the stud off to get it in. Also had to hack saw off about 1/4" of threads. Last was bending the dust sheild out of the way.

I am not saying this is the right way to do it, but I have plenty of threads left on the new stud, and it saved me the headache of taking the whole car appart.

MY CAR BACK ON THE ROAD!!

well old thread, but its my problem now. lug nuts were torqued so tight they had to be removed with bolt extractors :( wasnt thinking about the threads being stretched but new lugs went on and have been fine for months. Since i did my wheels last week i cant keep the drivers rear tire lugs tight. they keep coming loose and fast. the threads are F**** up.

Has anyone found an easier way to remove these studs??
