What's your ride height?

So, i'm sitting on JIC Magic flt tar coilovers, and am always looking at other peoples ride heights and want to compare them to mine. So I thought, why not make a thread about it? Not sure if there already is one, but I did a google search and a rx8club search and saw nothingggg. So if there is, then just post a link to it on here and save me the time haha.
Obviously, this is going to apply mostly to people on coilovers. I do know there is a thread for ride heights for lowering springs. But if you want to post yours on here anyways, go ahead!
But I guess the best way to do this thread would be measure:
From the center of the rim to the fender.

Also, pictures are awesome too! :)

If you have any different sized rims than stock, please post that also!

Thanks guys!

Max

well, if you wanted to start a thread about it, you could have at least given the info about your own ride height, with pics...

max_stuermer 11-12-2011 10:03 PM

I plan on it when I get 2 seconds and it's not dark as hell outside Haha. Just wanted to get the thread started. Doesn't have to have my specs to do that.

Bottom center of the rim to the fender? Like, the lowest part of the wheel to the fender?

I'll get some pics and stats in the morning. I do say, I wish I could go lower for appearance, but it's not practical for the track and street. I already broke a mud flap, haha. I CAN go lower, but not going to.

I already almost got stuck the other day, going through a one way parking lot. My frame nearly got hung up going in, and I couldn't make it back out the same way anyway, and going forward? Well.. Let's just say it was bad. My mom's Taurus has scraped leaving that place.

I'm going to have nightmares about that for years to come.

Twiztog43 11-13-2011 02:38 AM

i bottom out on just about every speed bump. no matter how i angle it or how slow i go, always end up hitting it. some of the bad ones are exiting driveways. im already at max angle and still end up bottoming out. [by bottoming out i mean hitting the center frame of the car]

i am low enough that i scrape almost every time i enter my driveway. would go lower, but it would pretty much be more of an impracticality and hassle than it already is. but you have to pay to play!

im on HKS Hypermax coilovers.

my car at sevenstock. [the pavement was uneven]

here's my ride height. measurements as requested in OP

front is 11.9in on both sides and rear is 11.1

yes yes yes i know big difference hahah. i might drop the front a tad just to get the front a little more even to the rear

dlum- Where are you measuring from?! Seeing that you have an EXTREMELY low car, do you know the measuring standard of where to measure from? I'm just kind of taking a guess from the bottom of the rim to the fender. :dunno:

Just got mine out and measured it. It's 23 1/4 on all 4 corners. Could drop it WAY lower, but I am looking into getting wider wheels soon. I really like the flush look of wider wheels on a lowered car; just barely any space between the wheel and the fender. :smoker: Also, in the future I am looking towards a body kit. So Tennessee is pretty rough roads, and I really don't want to tear anything apart haha.

measurement directions are in the OP. center of the rim to the fender

RX8inSTL 11-13-2011 05:46 PM

Bottom center. The first time I read it I thought he meant center of rim too.

TopGear8 11-13-2011 11:08 PM

When measuring ride height, you measure from the center of the wheel to the fender...Not the bottom center of the rim...

that is pretty low and it matches your IQ to boot, nice :fruit:

Thanks for clearing that up. I'll change the guidelines and re do my measurements.

hmmm i'm not sure if that's a compliment or an insult :suspect:

TeamRX8 11-14-2011 01:23 PM

well I can put my chassis all the way to the ground if I wanted to, but it won't be any faster than yours at that ride height

dlum125 11-14-2011 01:41 PM

so what's your point??

I never understood that. What if the person is running 20s ?? Wouldnt the drop measurement be off lol.

\\Konig\\ 11-14-2011 02:03 PM

so measurement is from center of wheelcap to the fender correct? first post needs to be updated with a picture of where to measure from just so that there is nooo confusion at all lol.

and this is not a thread to discuss and criticize the functionality of being so low, keep that discussion out of here...but it is a public forum, so the trolls will troll.

=D

I agree with this... but most people are running 18"s but also camber and tire height inst taken into account...

I always though the best way to measure was fender to the ground or from the roof to the ground. overall height of the vehicle has more factors than just center wheel to fender.

dlum125 11-14-2011 05:50 PM

the way i'm looking at it, we're only looking for height right? so if someone was the same ride height as me, but less camber, his center of wheel to fender measurement would be higher, so it does take into consideration camber. but it's also the same concept for wheel and tire sizes. bigger wheels = bigger measurement. that's how i'm looking at it. if i'm wrong, please correct me

TeamRX8 11-14-2011 07:01 PM

No, ride height is ride height. The impact from camber angle is small enough not to matter much, and even then the difference is still a part of the ride height measurement. You measure from the center of the wheel to take the tire od out of the equation. That said, ride height should not be confused with ground clearance or overall height, which are different measurements.

My previous comment was a slight. Slamming an RX8 below 12", maybe even 12.5", is seriously rotarded. That's not a compliment either.

dlum125 11-14-2011 07:49 PM

if it's not your thing, more power to you. and lets just leave it at that..

max_stuermer 11-14-2011 07:54 PM

So is the measurement still from the center of the wheel? And dlum- I think it looks sick. Im sure its a pain in the ass to drive. But it looks so sexy haha

Yes, inferior handling, poor suspension geometry, and wannabe poseurs pretending to be something they're not on the street are not my thing and I'm content to leave it at that.

If you want to listen to clueless know nothings and join their ranks by measuring at some point other than the wheel center then go at it ...
