whats the best low-pro tire for 20's?

Well I just purchased these rims for a very good price

http://www.adamedia.net/Tire-wheel/limit/507b.jpg

I was wondering whats the best low-pro tires for the RX-8

thanks.

If they are around the standard width (8") as the RX8's 18" rims then a 245/30/20 is your best bet. In that size you have the BF Goodrich KDW2's & Pirelli P Zero Neros. Both very good all season high peroformance tires. Both also have some unique patterns that go well with your rims.

245/35 is what we are running with the 20's :D . i dont think anyone makes 245/30 tyres

Minda 03-01-2005 01:19 PM

they are 20x 7.5

Fanman 03-01-2005 01:33 PM

Actyually I did a search & Pirelli & BF Goodrich make the 245/30 tires, but on a 7.5" it might be a tough fit. Are you going to lower your car substantially ? I know that Nitto makes a 225/35/20.

I have some 20X8.5 +45 offset wheels coming this week and I'm still torn as to what size tire to buy. I will be lowering the car with tein-s springs but I'm torn betwen the 225-35-20, 235-35-20 and 245-30-20 tires sizes. Can anyone shed some light on this?

PHA RX-8 05-26-2005 04:50 PM

Any thoughts?

Fanman 05-26-2005 07:08 PM

Get the 245's. On a 8.5" rim, the 245's fit the best. 225's are usually sized for a 7.5"-8" rim. You will get better traction, not to mention a better/wider looking tire.

in your setup i would go 235/30/20 and can go with a wider tire in the rear
even though u have 8.5 all around.
check out my setup in case u think im talking out my ass
rx8

Fanman 05-27-2005 01:56 AM

I would highly recommend against a staggered setup, if you can keep them all the same size. If you can run the same size your handling will be more neutral. I have 265's on my rears, but that is because I need the traction (I have a turbo on my car & can easily break loose even 265's). If you are running a regular RX8, the 345's should be fine. This comes from experience. Last weekend we had a canyon run & I was behind Addictive RX (245's all around) for several of the runs. On corners where he was taking hard, I took them hard but had the tailend come out a few times where he did not. Actually it was pretty fun but in terms of at the limit handling a setup with matching front & rears is probably better, not to mention you can rotate them.

Also Toyo has a 245/35/20 in their T1S line. Very good tires. i have them on my car right now (19"). They are getting replaced by the T1R in a little bit, but they are still a very good tire.

army_rx8 05-27-2005 06:28 PM

i have toyo proxis T1-S's they are great tires. i have them in 245/40/18. wonderful handling, in dry and wet traction...nice tread design as well :D

My wheels came in today (Kaotik GT). I'm still in turmoil on these tires. I have decided against lowering the car right now until I see how the wheels look on the car.

Fanman: 245/35/20 seems kinda tall on the sidewall. 1010tire.com shows that size 3% over in speedo and 2.92 % difference in diameter.

Kel RX8: Dude I can't do it as big as you. Whatever tire size I decide on, it will be for all 4. The 235-30-20 tire, not much choice with this tire.

FYI: I talked with the so-called "experts" at discounttire.com and they kept recommending the 225/35 tire.

So final choices; 225/35, 235/35, & 245/30.

Fanman 05-27-2005 07:46 PM

Then go for the 245/30/20's. KDW2's would be my pick.

Kel Rx8 05-27-2005 08:08 PM

good choice wheel, looks very clean. good luck with a tire choice.
just make sure to keeping doing your research Im sure you will pick a right tire for
your wheels.

The 20 " will make you look like a toy car.

You will be very slow too.

PHA RX-8 05-28-2005 11:29 AM

RX-8fan01, did you lower your car? Those are some nice rims. How is the ride on thpse 245/35? You got any other pics of you car?

lurch519 05-28-2005 11:49 AM

well, when it comes to wheels and tires, i wouldnt even reccomend a 20" wheel unless the car is going to be for show only, or the streets you drive on are as smooth as a baby's ass. running such a low profile tire, on regular streets, you are going to bend wheels like there is no tomorrow..... just my opinion. they may look sweet tho.........

PHA RX-8 06-09-2005 05:23 PM

All,

I got my 20's installed today. I went with the Nitto 555 in 235-35-20 with the Kaotik GT wheels. I will post pics when I get home and take some. Thanks for everyones help on this.
