What to do with Rx8 Wheels?

Im planning on getting aftermarket wheels (probably 19 " axis rims) very soon after I recieve the car. But I was wondering what you guys who are also getting rims, are planning on doing with the factory 18 inch wheels?. I was thinking of either arranging something with the dealer where they would factor in the price of the factory rims with the aftermarket, or maybe just selling them on ebay. What do you guys suggest? And how much do you think they would go for on e bay?

Many of us who plan on competing in our RX-8's, will be looking to buy a second set of rims for our race rubber. You'll probably find a reasonable number of buyers if you put them up for sale.

I don't have an answer to your question, but seeing that your planning on changing the wheels on your RX-8 I have a question for you......

When you change your wheels are you going to put on a tire pressure sensor? if so how do you know which ones are compatible? Or are you just going to let the Tire warning light stare you in the face all day? or find a way to disable the light?

MikeW 07-05-2003 01:09 PM

What kind of tires would you run, 235/35 19?

I was under the impression that the sensor is essentially "strapped on" to the factory rim, making it a relatively simple transfer to an aftermarket rim. (I could be wrong)

Does anyone happen to know the offset, and the bolt pattern, for the Rx8 Rims?

Nope, it's integral with the tire valve assembly. Mazda claim that it's incompatible with aftermarket rims... let us know if that's true, ok? ;)

I'll buy a few sets from some of the first folks to sell. P/M me if you're interested.

How much do you think would be a good price for four rims with tires?

colin204 07-05-2003 05:22 PM

Ask the dealer to give you a discount on the car if you let him take the rims and tires. The dealer could then take the 18" rims and put them on an automatic in place of the 16" rims and charge the customer extra.

thats a pretty good idea, but that would mean i have to decide on some rims very soon. Im split between the Axis Spider (www.axiswheels.com) , and the RoJa Formula Seven (www.rojawheels.com). Whatever rim i choose, im definitely getting them in gunmetal with a polished chrome lip, i should make a poll for all my rim choices

brothervoodoo 07-05-2003 08:57 PM

bassik,

Do you know how much those rims weigh? The stock 18' rims on the 8 are nice, but they are still stock. I'm in no rush and will wear out the rubber first before replacing them. By then, somebody will have a definative answer about what to do with the tire pressure sensor.

That actually seems like a good idea. By then a lot of these little details will be woked out and there will probably be a lot more options available to choose from.

Unless you are hurting for cash or space I would suggest keeping them so in the event you sell the car you can remove the aftermarket rims and sell them.

Rims and other aftermarket mods generally don't add much to thre resale value and you can get more money parting out your car and selling it.

I agree - keep your current wheels. You never know if a speed bump will come up and bite you someday either.....

i think the stock rims look better then all current products from those 2 companys. But if your going to get a racing set of rims then go with a lightweight alloy like the mazdaspeed gunmetal rims made of magnesium.

oh my gawd your avatar picture has got to go.

19s.....sigh. why not get some chrome 20s that keep spinning when you stop like them tyte rapPerz?

mikeb 09-07-2003 06:46 PM

whoses avatar needs to go. If you want chrome 20's with spinners get a SUV

SleepR1 09-08-2003 05:34 AM

I say keep the stockers. If you get aftermarket wheels, get wider 18s, like 9- or 9.5-inch wide. Switch to wider tires, like 255/40-18. The look, handling, braking will be most improved! I wouldn't go bigger than 18s.

myrx8 09-12-2003 08:24 PM

I got 16's on my car and would be interested in upgrading. I still have not found any aftermarket wheels that just come out and say "buy me, I will look great on your car".

bureau13 09-13-2003 08:43 PM

The yawpower web site has some stuff about plans for new wheels specifically designed for the RX-8. According to the info there, they'll be light weight. I assume they'll provide whatever is needed for the tire pressure sensor. I don't know when they'll be available however.
