Waah! TireRack won't have wheel fitment info for a couple months

According to the rep I spoke to on the phone, the car's so new they won't have new wheel info available for a couple months.

Baby wants new rims...

it's annoying that you can't choose rims by size on tirerack.com.

So just go shopping for wheels for a 1995 RX-7. Same bolt pattern and centre bore diameter, you just have to decide what offset you want (OEM 18s are 50mm) and what diameter you want. If you want 18" wheels, that gives you 59 to choose from. If you want 19s then you do have to figure them out yourself, though.

I'll have fitment info for you guys way before then ... for everybody who wants to know what the biggest possible combo is.

This could be a cross-post to the racing forum, but I'm primarily interested in wheels and tires for autocross.

Oddly it looks like the best class choices are either BS, STX or SM. For some strange reason the PAX modifier for BSP is worse than SM.

So on one hand there's the suggestion of 18x8's with 245-35/18 tires, but what about 16x7.5's with 225-50/16?

I'll start a new thread in the racing forum about this, since that's probably a better venue. But any information about street wheel fitment is also of interest since I'd like to run the fattest 18" wheels on the RX8 that's possible and still be able to rotate them front/back.

I don't think 16's will fit over the bigger brakes on the 6MT.

I'm also interested in the smallest/narrowest wheel and tire combo (for winter use). It sounds like 17" is going to be the smallest diameter but I'd still like to know the preferred width, offset, etc...

There's a thread here about winter tires/wheels, and one in the Canada forum (go figure! ;) ). I've been told by a contact in Mazda that the Base RX-8's 16" wheels will fit over the larger brakes on the Sport suspension, but I'm sceptical. I will test fit a set of aftermarket 16" wheels (Konig Holes) sometime in early September - since their on a Miata belonging to a friend right now, I can't arrange it any sooner.

Gordon

You might have trouble test-fitting 4-stud Miata wheels on the 5-stud RX-8 hubs!

(smack! to eccles) I know that! ;) I just need to get it close to see if the rim is likely to clear the caliper. One step at a time... :D
