So a website I know of are selling DBA rotors and have listed a pair of rotors for the front standard suspension cheaper than a pair of rear rotors. Almost two hundred bucks cheaper. Same series rotors and everything.

So that got me thinking. I looked up the size differences and the front std. suspension rotor is only larger than the rear rotor by 1mm. What exactly prevents me from using this front rotor in the rear of my car? Caliper clearance or something?

 

The front rotor is larger in diameter than the rear rotor, and by more than the 1mm you specify.

The front rotors will not fit on the rear without changing calipers.

 

Yup won't fit...

 

 

I'm surprised that a rotor only 1mm larger (when you think about it, only half a mm closer to the caliper) wouldn't fit. Would have thought there would be just a tiny little extra room. I'd understand if it was due to offset differences or if the hub diameter was a different size or something.

You stated that the front rotor is larger than the rear rotors "and by more than the 1mm you specify." which applies to the Sport Suspension models which are 323mm in diameter. My original post refers to the Standard Suspension front rotor which is 303mm in diameter, which IS only 1mm larger than the 302mm rear rotors.

Which brought me to my second post in the thread. If the only absolute reason why the rotor won't fit is because it's 1mm larger, I'd be genuinely surprised.

But hey, if it did fit perfectly fine I'm sure you guys would have been doing it well before this post. Cheers anyway.

 

Aahhhhhh....the devil is in the details, and I did in fact misread your original post. I honestly don't have an answer for you, but hopefully this has cleared up the question and someone else has an answer.

 

When I look it up on DBA's website I get the smaller front rotor listed at 302.5mm dia, 24mm thick, 45mm hight(offset) and the rear is listed at 300mm dia, 18mm thick with a 43mm height. It won't work, otherwise they'd have used the same part.

 

So not only it is because the rotor is larger in diameter (which is all I initially thought), it's different in width and offset.
