TPMS question !
do they last a life time or do they have some sort of internal battery?
My 8 was built 5/2003 and the TPMS still work. There is a battery, but the power is only on when the car is moving.
so basically as long as the car moves it last forever basically?
No, when the batteries die......................you will have to get a new TPMS. First you have to figure out which one went bad, then replace it.
oh ok, a worker from big O tires said most new tpms dont have batteries and last a life time... i bought some used 2005 tpms, how long do these things last for rx8s?
???????? I'm still on the original and I have a 2005.
Expo1 says he's had his since 2003. |
To put it another way, while my TPMS are old, they only have about 70,000 miles on them. Do you know how many miles is on them? If yours are not installed I would put new batteries in them just incase.
Expo1.......you sure these aren't emitting a small radio frequency all the time? How else would they do it by a centrifugal switch inside the unit?
im looking at my tpms and im pretty sure they're sealed... so idk how i would replace the battery.. is there any way to check? cause i dont wana pay 80$ to get them on my car then find out they're dead..

Yes, a centrifugal switch. A member tried placing 4 TPMS in a PVC sealing it and bringing the psi to 32. They didn't turn on and the TPMS light came on. That would indicate the sensors only 'turn on' when moving.

They last around 10yr 100k. Could last longer and could die sooner.

Well that certainly narrows it down! :cwm27: J/K

Dont mean to jack the thread but since its a TPMS thread figured id ask my question here. I just got my new wheels in today my car already has aftermarket wheels so Im not sure if the guy used the old TPMS or got new ones but can these be taken off the wheels that are on my car now and used on the new wheels? and what do the TPMS sensors do???
yeah

C'mon.......... TPMS = Tire Pressure Monitoring System(don't you have a manual?). If not get one for free after registering at mazdausa.com and read it.
Anyway..............it senses your tire pressure and alerts you when it falls below roughly 26psi. It actually will detect and overfill at about 49-50psi(If I recall correctly). |
