Tokico blue HPs
 

First off i did SEARCH.

I was wanting to see how everyone feels about the tokico Hps I have these on my ford escort zx2 with sleave coilovers, these are not adjustable but gave that car a nice ride.

I see everyone uses koni and coilovers but i cant afford that. I see the Tokico blues hps going for 350 a set and i can afford that and a set of 1.5" drop springs i think tein S. I know these arent adjustable but its a Daily Driven BAck and forth to work car only

Anyone have a Tein/ Tokico blue setup care to give me a review on them?
Also one site listed the tokico blues as a lifetime warrenty as well.

I was not aware they made Blues for the RX-8 and I have not seen them mentioned here so nice find. A search shows they were added to the lineup in March of 2011.

I am sure they will be fine but they are probably close to being the same as the factory Tokico's so if you install lowering springs on them they may fail prematurely. But if I were you I would contact Tokico about it.

But a quick search shows they are around $400.00 for all four and you still have shipping. For not much more you can get much better track proven shocks. People go with the Koni's because they are bad ass. But these Tokico HP's with a good set of springs is probably better than most of the cheap ass coil overs. That said, I have KYB's and S Tech's and they are a nice street setup.

Many, many options. Try the Blues and do a review.

Thanks for the reply, I may decide to go with these, Racingbeat lists them on there site as well. How do the kybs ride and what drop you running with them?

The KYB's ride great, they are a high pressure (JDM Yo) monotube shock. I am riding on Tein S tech springs. I'm not too low. It's a good street setup.

Tokico HP's for the RX8 have been out for a while for the 8, although I don't know of anyone that uses them. One thing is that they are low-pressure like the D-Spec, but are not adjustable. It would be interesting to see if someone buys these and see how they work out with springs. I bet they would drop a little more like the Koni and D-Spec.

If they are low pressure then they should. My KYB's are high pressure like the stock Tokico's so it sits a little higher in the rear then I would like.

I looked into these about a year ago myself, and really didn't see anybody on here using them. I guess it's because most people think they are just stock replacements. I went on their website and sure enough, it's states they're low-pressure, which would assume that they are not just a stock replacement. If I hadn't found my local hookup on the D-specs, I probably would have bought these.
Update, I just looked on their website and couldn't find anywhere about being low-pressure in the current catalog. I did find a description for ones that are for sale for an RX8 though. Some of the Miata guys that track don't like these shocks and had blowouts from what I have read.Attachment 181511

Oh, these are a twin tube design? I didn't catch that. Twin tubes are typically inferior to monotube shocks.

The OP may be better off going with your set up 9k, since it's already been proven, it is odd though that NOBODY ever bought these for an 8.

Yeah it is very odd. Then again, I don't recall anyone other than me having the KYB's either.

ok with all my research the tokico blues are the mazdaspeed shocks

the mazdaspeed shocks handle a .8-1 inch drop,

so the tokico company says the blues are rated for a 1.5" drop is 1.75" too much for them to handle? is there a big difference in .25"?

I have them with Tein Stechs. I like em a lot and it says on the warranty that they are covered for up to a 1.75" drop. Tein Stechs are within that (1.2" front .7" back). I don't track my car so I wouldn't know how they work with that, but they are good for a DD. Yeah I saw that no one had tried em but I have seen other people use them with other cars so I went for it.

I don't think the Mazdaspeed shocks are the same thing, I don't think they're twin tube low pressure.

I'm not 100% positive but after talking to Mazda the nazdaspeeds are made by tokico .. so there's a chance.

Cool, I thought the mazdaspeeds were monotube? I am surprised these are twin tube since twin tube is inferior to monotube and the factor sport shocks are high pressure monotube.

But there is only one way to find out if these are any good. Thanks for sharing guys.

I'm totally reviving an old post, but I have a complaint about this set up. I've had it for a little over a year now and my car bottoms out over bumps above 10mph, and it bottoms out altogether when I have 3 passengers. I'm trying to determine whether it is the shocks or the springs.

I had the same problem with my setup then (HP Blues/ S techs). Never found out what it was. I know there have been reports of people getting fake tein springs and I am sure that would cause the bottoming out, but I am pretty sure mine were legit. Might be the shocks then, who knows.
