Tires to bulky on wheels??

4 Attachment(s)
I bought some XXR 527 18x9.75 and one of my friends told me that I should get some 225/45 18 tires for the wheels. When my tires came in I took them to a tire shop for a stretch. Heres how they look like when they stretched the tire on the wheel.
Attachment 240771 Is that supposed to look like that:icon5::icon5::icon5::Wconfused
When they mounted them on my car it was rubbing on the fender. Attachment 240772

My question is, what is the proper size tires for these wheels??? Heres a few more pics..

you should spend some time reading the "Will it fit" sticky

That sized tire should stretch a fair bit on that sized wheel. Perhaps this is what you meant by "bulky"?

What was the offset of the wheels?

edit: Just saw that photo of the wheel only that didn't load the first time. This sized tire is somewhat narrow for this sized wheel, hence the slight stretch.

Well, your car looks pretty damn low on stock wheels. What offset are these?

EvisuMan 09-27-2011 02:07 PM

The offset on the wheels are +20

Nope Im using tanabe coilovers.

9krpmrx8 09-27-2011 02:25 PM

Okay well then those should be able to fit. One of our local guys was on tanabe's running 18 x 10 +18 running 265/35-18's. Time to get the wrenches out and start adjusting.

Lol true that, I was thinking of rolling the fenders and adding some spacers. What do you think about that?

Adding spacers? No dude. Rolling fenders? Yes you must.

EvisuMan 09-27-2011 02:41 PM

Ok cool, I wasnt sure if I should add spacers lol what about the corner blinkers, am I going to have to take them off or can I leave them on prior to rolling the fenders.

9krpmrx8 09-27-2011 02:52 PM

That is all determined on how you get the car stanced. Some people retain them, some do not. There is a lot of experience and know how that goes into it when you start getting that aggressive and low. Maybe some of the wheels spec pros with chime in to help you.

EvisuMan 09-27-2011 03:00 PM

Yea that's true. I'm trying to get that aggressive look. But just need help getting there lol

RX8inSTL 09-27-2011 03:26 PM

Probably should have gotten 235/40s or 225/40s.

And kinda off topic but I dont think thats a 4 inch drop. Probably closer to 3

My two front tires are 225/40 lol

dannobre 09-27-2011 03:58 PM

If the tires are rubbing on the outside...spacers will make it worse

wrightcomputing 09-27-2011 03:59 PM

I think you are going to have to either give up height of give up wheel size.

that doesnt make sense because Ive seen a couple of rx8's that have 18x10.5, best thing i can do is roll my fenders.

wrightcomputing 09-27-2011 04:47 PM

Rolling the fenders is only going to give you a little bit of extra room behind the fender. The second photo looks like the tire is out past the outside edge of the fender so rolling wont help.

I would alter your alignment and give as much -ve camber as possible this will pull the tops of the wheels inwards and may give you more room.

I did my own camber in about an hour, this is the thread I started and got loads of help on how to do it.

^you're forgetting a very important component in that statement.

OFFSET.

Offset will determine how easy or difficult fitting a wheel and tire will be.

18x10.5 +50offset or something will pretty much be cake compared to fitting 18x10.5 +5offset.

For what you're trying to achieve you should be able to get away with a good fender roll and a good alignment. The tire specs are a bit tall though but if the tires are already purchased then you really can't do much.
