Tire reviews 245/45 vs 235/45
 
I have the usual problem with the step in the garage entrance (community) and I am tired of hitting the catalyst or other parts of the car.

I have a 192CV with the original tires 18 x 8 "and since I use normal (street) I would not mind losing some acceleration changing to wider tires.

I'm thinking about 235/45 (I would raise the car about 4.5mm) or 245/45 (I would raise it about 9mm). I know that everyone recommends those measures in profile 40, but that does not solve the problem because they are lower than 225/45.

I would like to know how much I would lose in acceleration, stability, feeling in the direction, etc.

Has anyone tried any of these? Can you tell me your impressions?

I repeat it is for a street use, I like to drive fast but not in competition plan and I do not intend to put it on the circuit either.

I don't think you'll be able to notice the difference on the street.

That's what I thought, but looking at forums some say that with the change to width 245 reactions are lost in the direction, others comment that the loss of performance is noticeable much by the largest section of rubber on the floor. Some also comment that there is more grip, but maybe it is too much rubber for the power and weight of the car.
That's why I'm hesitating to settle for the 4.5mm elevation of the 235 or go for all and get into the 245

You're really right, I rarely take the car to the point where that's important. But what I do not want either is to go with the rubber height (imprecise steering) nor to go with the width and to penalize the grip in the wet.

I run 245/45/18. Unless my tires are slipping from lack of grip, I'm not hitting cones in autox from lack of "steering performance". Even at highway speeds, changing lanes doesn't feel like I have to turn the wheel any more than another vehicle I had with low profile 18's.

I have a 255/35. That amount of change of wheels and tires won't affect the car that much. My car still feels like it's on stocks for how the steering response is accept with more grip, I'm sure the 0-60 is affected but it's small and you can't even really tell

99% of people online claiming to notice a 10mm difference between widths are just making excuses to make up for crap driving skill.

"Dude, you totally won that race because I went with 245's instead of 235's and they are slowing me down" -- That one douche we have all met at one point in our lives we want to punch in the teeth.

Comparing 235 vs 245, look at the math from this perspective.
(100 / 235) * 235 = 100 %
(100 / 235) * 245 = 104.25 %

100 (base percentage), 235 (width 1), 245 (width 2), accepting 235 with 100% being our baseline, a 245 is ONLY 4.25% wider. Lets say you took two identical cars with identical wheels, and both had Federal 595RSRR tires with one car having 235's and one having 245's, would you believe that your average driver can tell the difference?

I've had the following on the RX-8:

225/45/18
235/45/18
245/40/18
265/35/18

My favorite street set up is still 235/45/18, given the height to pull into driveways and lower cruising RPMs. I don't notice an increase in ride comfort vs 225/45. I not the best driver, nor am I a turd behind the wheels. This is with K&W V3 coil overs, Hotchkis sway bars, etc. I feel totally comfortable canyon road bombing and highway driving with this size tire.
