Why did mazda choose 225 width?
Why did they choose 225 over the 245 most here like to use. Just curious. Thanks.

you should be more concerned about commanding a soft landing …

"New to drifting"... "Need the rear to be able to break loose upon command"... "Mountain pass runs on the downhill"...
Tire width should be the least of your concerns. |
Oh man. Bunch of dorks here. Nice header theory thread teamrx8.

Simplified my OP so I can get a better answer. Thanks

Who knows why Mazda decided something 18 years ago. Maybe it was a cost thing, maybe they needed to take into consideration aquaplaning risk.
225 is OK if you're using the right compound for the job. I dunno about "most" here, I didn't like 245 for road course all that much. Was it the size or the tire model? We'll never know. Drive it and see, there's no magic formula that works for all drivers for all circuits. Also drop the attitude if you want help. |

The 245s I had were Rivals. They were OK but felt.. sluggish in situations where I expected more response - trail braking and throttle steering. Went with 235 RS4s after and no regrets. Apples and oranges, but I think that's my point. Size is not an absolute and the question doesn't make sense as a result. Start somewhere and see what you want to improve.
If you're putting this on stock wheels that's another thing. I'm talking about tires on 17" race wheels, more sidewall, less weight. Your results might be completely different. |
trust me, it was barely even a flicker, let alone a flame. :suspect:

Thanks for your suggestions. I also want to know whether the stock tire width good for the TOUGE and thanks to all of you for the answer.

Haha this thread made my day!
In my experience with stock wheels and tyres this combo is about right unless pushing the car hard. When i went to 235/ 40 the car the car felt like it was on rails. So i never bothered with 245 as i think it would be over tyred for the amount if power on NA. FI probably a different story that i have no experience with. Also the 235/ 40 size is really common and therefore cheaper where i live anyway! |

Im on stock wheels. 235/40 tyre poke barely protects wheel lips. So the wheels dont get scratched when you lay a wheel on its side while checking brakes etc. Not the case for 225/ 45 which did scratch the wheels, just annoying when you make sure not to curb your wheels when driving! 😉

I hear ya but I'm looking to minimize sidewall flex in corners. Looking for scalpel like precision.

. Factory stock is 225 on 8”, but you talked about a scalpel and then your action equates it to 245; which is almost 1” wider that 225, on only a 1/2” wider wheel? believe it or not, some people on here actually pay attention 🧐 . |

If you'd put the 235 tire on the 8.5 wheel you would had even more stretched tire on the contact surface, even more precision. A 245 tire would stretch nicely on a wider wheel.

I’ll revise that from a butter knife to some raw, unprocessed metal ore … :suspect:

was going through some old files though and saw these pics from back in 2007 when I put SSR Comp-C 18x10.5+43 wheels with 265/35-18 tires on my RX8.

Cool. A little too wide for my taste slash it looks like you got a little "poke" going on there. Not a fan, sorry. Probably looks better in person. Thanks for sharing though 😃
Ah 2007 was a good year. Just made the mistake of getting rid of my mint 1992 Maxima SE 5spd with the rare DOHC engine after getting a 2003 BMW 330 daily. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would own a rotary. Bought it 2 months ago and still haven't been able to drive it. Wonder if I will like it 😎

it fills the fenders, yet clears everything without any modification with lowering.
unlike yourself, I wasn’t playing around. No poke when it’s hunkered down and the camber gain is kicking in … https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...7d3dad48f.jpeg |

Tire size should be the last thing you worry about. Stock size is fine for the car on the road.
What's.. 'good for the touge' really is track time to learn the car and yourself, and practice to learn the route. Touge is not where you want to find your limits, as recent social media can illustrate very well. Here's a few clips. Car is mostly stock, just midpipe, tein flex z, ES ctrlarm bushings, sporty alignment. Stock wheels, goodyear eagle sport a/s tires 225 45 18. Hanging out with s2k, brz, zr1, z06, etc. Even on these runs, tire size is never a limiting factor. I have a front sway bar pending install though |
Nice car, thanks for sharing it with us. I was searching for https://writinguniverse.com/free-ess...les/education/ website online while searhing for it online, I found your post.
