Stern ST5 trouble
 

I recently purchased a black 07' MT. It looks as if the finish on these wheels is coming off. I need help as to what I should use to clean them or if it's more than cleaning that's going go fix this. Or if I just have to live with it, here you go:

Sterns are pretty cheaply made wheels, I have seen a few after a few years and they tend not to last. You could have them repaired. You can try polish but it depends on if those lips are cleared or not. Have you tried polish?

What kind of polish do I use? It's not a true chrome finish. It almost looks like brushed steel

Try brasso with a microfiber towel. Places like Lowes and home depot have brasso. You can try auto stuff but it never seems to work as good as brasso. I used Brasso on my old Volk rims and they held up perfectly.

But if something was sprayed on the rim or splashed on the rims then you might have no other choice then to sand, polish, and clear them again.

Okay I'll pick that up soon. I think it's the clear coat on top of the metal that's taken the beating of whatever beat it to pieces. Or maybe just worn from sitting at the dealer for a long time. But I'll try it and it that doesn't work looks like I'll be sanding and re doing it all.

If you think it is clear coated then use mothers rubbing compound first, then wax, then buff. Any cleared surface should always be cleaned and then waxed as often as possible. That is how I keep mine pretty.

I don't believe there is a clear coat. Just polished steel, stainless I think
