I just had my Tanabe NF210's installed today - dealership quoted $550, plus $80 for alignment. I found a local shop that did it for $300 plus $75 or alignment with guidance and the DIY from this forum

dumb question...are those prices including the price of the springs or is that just for install labor? I was going to order the springs themselves from DPE (thinking Tein basics at this point) then get them installed locally.

I would say the $300+ whatever an alignment costs sounds about right. It shouldn't take a competent shop more than four hours, which at $75/hr means $300 or so. And be it springs, shocks and springs, or a coilover kit, the cost should be the same as far as labor. And the prices I'm showing are JUST labor costs.

FWIW, coilovers are a bit easier to install quickly as you don't have to compress the springs for the install (just lower the spring seat, install the tophat, and set the spring seat to the proper height), and for something like Tein Flex with their own upper mounts, it's even more straightforward as there's no disassembly of the OEM 'coilover'.

I unfortunately can vouche for the dealership being the higher install price!

I do however LOVE the Tein Basics on my car! Can't wait to hit the Dragon next week!

what's the difference in ride height between the koni setup with h-techs and the basics?

that's really the dealbreaker for me, because i'm soon to be rollin' on 17x10's.

what would be a good spring to go with the tein basic coilover kit? i dont want a big drop i was thinking about racing beats spring?? I want to be able to race on the track in the summer but i have pretty crappy roads here in MN. suggestions.. thank you

Um. The springs that come with the Tein basic coilover kit.:uhh:

In case you didn't read through shaunv's sarcasm, the idea of a "coilover" is that you get the shock and spring in one package. The Tein Basics are adjustable for height so you can play with that once you have them mounted (although it can get expensive with a realignment each time).

I am a car lowering noob, so had some basic questions. I want to pick up a set of springs, but was concerned with having to purchase a camber kit. I ask this because when I was thinkin about lowering my last car, everyone was recommending to get a camber kit to adjust for the drop in ride. Any suggestions?

You won't need a camber kit if all you're looking to do is drop your 8. The camber kit only comes into play if you're setting the alignment

Lowering the ride height on this car will actually allow you to get more camber than stock. That is a good thing. :)

Either way though you should be able to get a stock alignment setting as long as you don't go lower than 1". If you do you'll just have to make due with a little more negative camber. Which is a good thing in this case for more cornering power. :)

I'm hoping to get some relatively stiff springs, moreso that most of the ones you guys have been talking about, but the two stiffest springs mentioned here weren't reviewed. Seems like the Mazdaspeed kit is just too damn expensive to review. I mean, I'm really looking at the Tokico DSP setup that's around that stiffness because it's way cheaper and adjustable, but I'd like to know how the car reacts to that weight spring.

Also, Megan Racing makes this height adjustable kit for the RX-8:

They're definitely harder than I'd like to go (450lb/in front, 337 rear), but still not quite 800lb track springs, so I'm still considering them.

What do you guys think of springs in this range?

Also, I believe it's been stated that any level of drop more than 1" means the stock suspension can't be realigned to normal levels of camber. What've you guys found on this front? (not that I'm looking to lower my car more than than)
