Today's snow storm is pretty horrendous.. At least while my car has it's summer shoes still on :( This is my first winter with my 8. Thank god for the DSC button! It saved me so many times. Cmonnnnn winter tires. Hopefully they will be waiting for me by the end of the week :/

The Hankook Ipikes are no longer available at discounttiredirect, so I am now going for the Yokoyama Ice Guards. Reviews online are positive and the price is similar so not much of a loss.

I have been using the P Zero Nero for several years and they worked well. When things get really icy, I will put on the zip ties to get home. And worse case I have a set of cables which will get me almost anywhere, although getting them on is a bitch.

yeap def feel the 245/45/18 idea...i did the same to my 8 even tho its parked up, n just needed an alignment n my car drives great...is snow the best for exterior and paint jobs...i think a all wheel drive or ne car is best for that...jus got a two tone so id go for a 2nd car

I have been going through old threads looking for info on 16" wheels. My plan was to transfer the 225/55/16 snow tires that I use on my 528i to an '06 RX-8 Touring, using the 16" wheels that came with the base model AT RX-8. Based on what I quoted above, it appears the 16" wheels will not clear the brakes?

Went to a mazda dealer to get a snow tire package... and they wanted to charge me 1600$ for a set of mazda 6 17's with blizzaks on them. I almost punched the dude. Then He said, ya, the rx-8 has a 45 high or some shhht. pfff.

I went to a local wheel and tire shop and they set me up with a set of aftermarket five star alloys (17) with kumho KW22's. 215 width as recommended on this site. These tires are nubby. they should be great in the snow. I dont do a lot of highway driving so i went for more of an aggressive snow tire than a tire that has a higher max speed rating.

Im happy. I got a rebate from Kumho for 40 bucks too.

My first taste of the mazda dealer isnt a good one.

Bought my 2005 RX in September. Used to driving a RWD car, but only in the summer. So after a very nice snow, I got to take the RX with Blizzak's on it out on the road. Wow what a blast. Totally forgot how much fun RWD is in snow. The traction control adds so much. Car zigs, then zags and then just keeps moving forward. Blizzak's are great. Thanks to those that recommended them.

I live in NYC. we get it all. rain, snow, dry, wet, slick , bumps, pot holes........ I use Conti Extreme DWS All Seasons.... I can drive in snow rain , dry ,, you name it, no wheel changes, handle well, wear well, look great, and highly rated!

Does anyone know if the OEM TPMS sensors fit on steel wheels (looking for a spare set for my winter steelies)?

Would depend on what steel wheels used. Not all steel wheels are the same, therefore you can't make a blanket statement saying it will work.
