Size of spare tire?

Simple question: Is the optional spare full sized? If so, I'm assuming it occupies most of the trunk space, right ?

Also, I thought I read somewhere that the tires are a "run flat" type. Is this true? If so, what's the can of sealant doing in the trunk?

To answer my underlying question "should I buy the spare?" what have people's experiences been with run flat tires and "get you home" spray cans. I can just imagine getting a flat in the middle of nowhere (far away from the traffic police for obvious reasons!) I'd like to figure out how bad a scenario that would be ;-)

Cheers!

No, it's a regular "donut" spare on a narrow alloy wheel. The OEM tires are not runflats - RE-040's are available as runflats, but those fitted to the RX-8 are not. The "Instant Mobility System" comprises a non-pressurised bottle of sealant goo, and a 12V air pump.

Thanks, eccles.

I wonder why they didn't fit the run flat RE-040's? Cost saving, performance issues?

More likely because they detract from the ride quality due to their stiff sidewalls.
