S Tech Vs H Tech - A Visual
Man those are Really Great pictures. 9K we need to do a side by side with my progress springs.
I dont see a difference they look the same drop. Are both in stock shocks?
Looks like the s techs are just a hair lower by looking at the air dam area below the grill.
Awsome pics tho! |
Same size tires I presume?
I am running 245/40-18's and he is running 225/45-18's.

a little MS Paint Compar-o ;)
Not the best but you can see that H-techs are a bit lower. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1386853_n.jpg |
Hmm well 9K, your stilling on different shocks they arent OEM if I remember correctly. And thats strange because my Tein S.Techs are sitting on my Koni Yellows and im a good half inch lower than you atleast... There should be no way the H. Techs are that close unless you guys preloaded the shit outta them, their sagging, or your S. Techs arent preloaded.
Im not saying you guys are wrong by any means, im just wondering how the H. Techs are that low. Deadphoenix has H.Techs on OEM Tokico shocks and Im lower by like an inch or 1-2 fingers, and the Koni's only lower your car an additional like .5 inch so... Oh and also the different tire size will lower or raise your car slightly as well, by like .3 inches because the sidewall is a different length. |
It's a mystery, mine are preloaded, they are actually my second set of S-Techs. We preloaded his the same exact way and they have settled since then too. Tires play into it and so can shocks, but even when his car was on stock springs it was lower than other stock RX-8's. Who knows, until someone else with H-Techs on stock shocks measures.
Yeah man some 8's are just different... I can understand that. I got a buddy who is on S. Techs and OEM Tokico shocks and his car is just as low as mine, I scratch my head just wondering whats going on... lol good pictures man
yeah we have done, several S tech installs, Tanabe's (coilovers and GF's), Progress Autox's, and the differences are minimal with the exception of the coilovers of course. We recently did S techs on a 40th with the factory Bilsteins and it sits real nice.
I can't believe they make the stock rims look that good. Nice.
Thanks, I'll have a set of Clean Shinka wheels on soon and then I'm gonna do something interesting with these ;) I love the stock wheels a lot which is why I can't seem to spend money on aftermarket wheels.

Yes, 0.4" lower. |
^ok cool, just thought the earth started spinning the other way for a second...i'm back!!
very interesting comparo though. |
THANK YOU!!! Excellent thread for those, like me, who was dying to see a comparison!
In case you missed it, this actually isn't that great of a comparison. The H-tech car is crazy low for some reason.
The other thing that is left out of this comparison is the relatively big difference in spring rates between the two.
The S-Techs are amongst the highest advertised spring rates on the market (which is why I chose them). |
