Run Flat Snows?
I've been researching the snow tire/wheel option for the winter and have pretty much narrowed it down to the Blizzak LM-22 or the Dunlop M3. By accident, I found that they both (I think) also have a Run Flat Technology (RFT) version for about $15 more per tire. That is, if you get a puncture, they will continue to run as if they are still inflated for a limited time/miles. I know this technology has been around for a while, but it seems like an especially good idea for winter tires, since changing a flat in a snow storm would be at the bottom of my "10 funnest things to do" list!
Does anyone have any direct comparison experience, or have you seen documented comparisons, with these tires and/or with the RFT versions? Thanks for your input!! Zoom, Zoom! |
Doesn't ANYONE have head to head experience witht these tires? Or comments on the RFT versions? :o

Dunlop M3 Winter Sport
I ran these last winter and I will this winter too.
I was advised not to get the run flats, by a tirerack specialist, because they are stiffer. In the snow a person gets better traction if the tire molds around the snow. It is also better to have more sidewall on the winters, that is why I dropped down to the 17s. Very good tires. Would definitely get Dunlops again for winter rubber. By the way I live in Minnesota (credibility sake). |
I have used the Dunlop M3s for two horrible snow seasons. THey plowed through the snow with ease. I was going where trucks couldn't get through. I would highly recommend them.
I am running on the stock 18" rims. |
