Ehh, I'm sort of just playing devil's advocate. I personally think Rotas are fine as they entertain a different segment in the market - sort of an in between for those who either can't afford real wheels or don't take modifying their car as serious. In the end, neither of these groups would purchase the real deal, even if they could, so no realistic money loss occurs. I'm sure if fakes didn't exist though, more people would attempt to purchase the originals. So as far as profitability, I don't know how much of a difference Rotas actually make. If you're a proponent of intellectual property rights, then that's a whole other story...

Yeah I think its more about people just not giving a damn about the wheels brand. In this months DSport AFI's 2005 S2000 is running Rota Wheels DPT 18x10" F&R (CE-28' style), on TOYO PROXES R888 275/35/18. They also run Wilwood 6-pistons Calipers with Wilwood Rotors and Pads. Just looking at their Spec sheet... the car has to be valued near $100,000... its A Time Attack S2k... so for them I guess you can say that they are more worried about what Tires they got on the floor than the brand of wheels thats holding the tires. IMHO I see nothing wrong with ROTA (still not for me). Its nice for them to offer nice style wheels at reasonable prices. It could be worse and theycould offer some FUGLY wheels , Ya know? You know Enkei is the #1 wheel manufacturer and they have some pretty badass styles too choose from. Not only that but they are pretty damn light and at decent prices. For the New PF01's 18"x8.5 they weigh in @ 18lbs for $300 a rim is not bad. Compared to buying any RAYs and spending $500+ a wheel.

Right now Im looking at either the S5:F_spec wheels by FIVE:AD which are the same wheels the Bergenholts RX8 is running (even though i do believe that they have made the change to the new PF01's) which is also my second choice of wheels... Its gonna be either the PF01's or the S5:F_Specs....coupole of months.
OP- what do you plan on setting up your RX8 for? just DD, track? Hella Flush? |
im doing a more flush look. my thinking is that i save like 1000 dollars by not getting the name and wheels are disposable in my opinion. i come from a drift crowd where we run miss matched crazy colored wheels so i would feel bad spray painting a 500 dollar every month ya know

Zumn, race teams care about speed, and that only, with a pinch of safety. Of course they'd rather save considerable amounts on wheels, thats more $$ for R&D. The reason Rotas look good and not fugly is because, well, they're replicas of other great wheels. Nothing wrong with running them, as long as circumstances call imho.

People buy these kind of wheels are people who have other plans for their car. Like going faster and better handling for tracks. Spending money on better stickier tires and what not. You're tracking your car getting beat up all the time thus more spending on the maintenance and what not. I think spending 3 grand for wheels is out of the option. For me if I have a really nice car I would not mind spending a lot for some nice wheels... but if I have a car that I DD and track then I'll have to go with budgeting lol.

Rotas are typically respected replicas. Lightweight, fairly good quality for what they are...
Rota affiliates are sponsors on popular forums like NASIOC.com (North American Subaru Impreza Owner's Club), Evolutionm.net (Mistubishi Evo forum), etc and push the wheels pretty hard. The way I see rotas is that they're more or less the top of the spectrum when it comes to replicas. If you can afford the real thing get it, if not - you won't really go wrong with Rotas... |

Wheeldude/subydude has exclusives or owns the molds on a lot of the Concave desirable fitments. He's able to charge pretty good money for Rotas as a result. If you were to pick a fitment from say:
http://rotawheel.com/AVAILABILITY.htm If you can make sense of this, I can actually get you guys pretty great deals on Rota. They are 20mins away. Apparently I can pickup some 18x9.5 +15 in FBRL?? Flat Black Red Lip = Time Attack I don't think the GRID are lightweight though. Most of the concave designs will be much heavier. Does anyone know the weight of a phat 18x9.5 Grid? Rishie |

Rishie My buddy had some 18x9.5 +35 grids and they felt around the same weight as the respective cr kais in similar sizing. Granted not exact same size, different tire sizes, etc but I don't think they're exactly lead weights. That's the best input I can give... Buy from Rishie, he's one of the hardest working and dedicated vendors I've seen for the rotary crowd :D: |
