Rolling fenders or cut fenders ? choice made!
hello all
well it seemed like i had a chance to give my friends a ride in the 8 this week and noticed some rubbing on humps, dips i check a couple of places and experts and they all reccomended not to roll the fenders even a known rim shop here in nj would do it but told theres a risk. heres the risk i was presented if not done right and done right 1st time. 1.rolling fenders could cause paint to break/split p.s happened before on my fd. 2.cutting wrong or if cuuter slips can cut outter fender.on this one i thought to myself how can someone mess up.but the guy at the rim shop told me that it has happened before out of hunderds of cars.and if does i would have to have bodywork done. so my choice was to get a well known body shop to do the work. it just so happened my boy called me to pick up his 98supra t.t:) from the body shop that had also painted some stuff for my fd and some of my friends rx7 in the past. he measured it told me it rubs a bit and will cut a nice arch in fender wheel well till the outer weld tacks(no one recomended going past that at all.) took about 2-3 hours to get done he cut a bit of plastic black rubber that meets fener with bumper or it will shave a bit with wheel.but you dont have too. anyway picked it up picked up some heavy friends.lol about 500 pounds combined.threw the fullsize in the trunk put a jack back there and a weight.an went for the ride. took some nice turns, humps, dips, short curbes and not one RUB AT ALL.im so glad. teins here i come will try to get some pixs later in the day but car is in garage and weather out here is nasty. |

so how much did they charge to roll or cut the rear fenders, if you don't mind me asking?

Good point, Paul.
|
It would depend on the point of the rub. If it's just rubbing the inside edge and not the top of the inner fender, no problem. Roll the inside lip and VIOLA! full travel inside the wheelwell withought slicing up your tires.
PS, mine are getting done tomorrow |
i paided 50 bucks a fender worth ever penny
EZZY im assuming you mean the fd also cause the 8 i think is impossible to do the fronts if so they should be okay. Omicron thankyou reason is if i lowered it before and im rubbing now with people in the back i wouldnt be able to bare taking it out of the garage. hope that made sense. i will show you guys later some pixs what needed to be done easy fix made my life easier. p.s where the pixs of the teins omicron. :D |
rolled them up! no problems...
|
Im just curious how your rx-8 is rubbing because mine hasn't rubbed yet and after i got the tien flex kit put on it still doesn't rub and its lowered as low as it can go?

on some iforge 19's...
245/30/19 fronts 275/30/19 rears without rolling the fenders i would hear them scrape at every bump...now no more! |

post some when i get back from los angeles...
|
ok that explains why your rubbing and im not since i still have stock rims on
|
Sorry for necro-bumping but I can't start a thread yet. I have 245/30R18's with 15 or 25mm offset (not sure) and I have severe rubbing with stock suspension. Do you think I could get away with fender rolling or should I consider changing springs.
Maybe I could use a spring compressor reversed to stiffen the springs without lowering the car? Other ideas that don't involve changing wheels? |
Do you need 245s? Could you go down to 225?
What camber are you running? Also look for the Will it Fit? thread. |

What camber are you running? Also look for the Will it Fit? thread. However the 245's are already stretched, I doubt 225's would fit. No idea about camber. I guess zero. Can the camber be adjusted on stock suspension? I'll look into the will it fit thread, thanks! |
