Recommended winter tires

Hey guys, since fall/winter is coming, I've been thinking about getting some all-season or winter tires for my car. I bought it new late winter last year so never got different tires. Does anyone have any recommendations for tires - these would be 18" and I have been recommended that I should probably go ahead and get new wheels just for the winter so that they aren't swapping out the tire from the rim every winter/summer.

You may want to add where you live. The weather I get here is far different than say Utah. It'll help make some recomendations.

My blizzaks work great for North Dakota winters :) I use my stock rims w/blizzaks in winter and aftermarket rims w/ pirellis in summer.

Start researching winter tires for your 8 here:

One thing, though. If you're keeping your stock tires, don't get all-seasons. All-seasons are the "swiss army knife" of tires: pretty good, not great in summer; okay, not great in winter. So the only reason to have all-seasons is that you only need one set of tires. Since you'll be swapping tires anyway, you lose the one advantage of all-seasons. Get yourself a good set of dedicated winter tires instead.

Michelin Sport A/S Plus are rated as ultra high performance all weather tires, and they offer great performance.

Lol its just a dirt road that leads to a couple houses about a 1/4 north of I94 in my town. Dirt roads that are that vibrant in color are a dime a dozen around here.

thank you, ND isn't too far from Iowa so I may make it up that way. I love good views and that looks like I could enjoy it quite a bit. I'd rather drive 6K miles for a good view than 500miles for a curve in the road.

I think he played with the contrast. I live in South Dakota and there are not gravel roads that look that orange around here.

Mullet, i did very little, trust me though there are many dirt roads that look like that even without the contrast.... and yes there arent in south dakota lol ive made a couple road trips to rapid and all i saw were tumbleweeds and grasshoppers on the way down.

This year western North Dakota especially is extremely green and the dirt roads around here are all nice and oiled and freshly laid down.

Anywho, enough with the thread jack :)

I picked up a set of Nokian WRG2 tires in 225/50/17 on my winter beater 17" rims.

They work really well for Chicago winters provided I don't try to drive through anything deeper than about 4".
