RB ET300 pads Lower Bite than Stock?
 

Hi everyone,
I just recently replaced the front rotors and pads of my 04 with the racing brake slotted one piece rotors and the ET300 pads. I will be doing my rears next week because of the rusting of the stock rotors. I have since noticed that the initial bite with these new pads doesnt seem as strong as the stock pads and rotors I replaced. I am planning on flushing the whole system once I get the rears on the car. I think new fluid will help with the pedal feel. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When you say initial bite, do you mean you put them on and went around the block and noticed they do provide better than stock performance?

Bed the brakes in properly. They will bite.

By initial bite, I mean that the new pads feels softer on the first 1/4 to 1/2 of the brake pedal movement. After that, they stop very hard. I'm thinking that the pedal range might need to be adjusted or I might not have bed the pads in properly. I got the rotor surface to 350 degrees measuring with my infrared thermometer. I'm not sure if that is enough for these pads.

Could be the characteristic of the compound, but it also could be that they need to be bed in properly for a proper transfer film to coat the rotors.

If the weather is cold you will feel a little less bite from them, also, they are designed to compete directly with the hps pads; the stock brakes are really good, you shouldn't feel that much more bite from this pad. I have the et 500 pads and they bite hard even in cold and stop ridiculously hard after intial bite......can't wait to see what they do when its warmer out and I get to the track.

Operating temperature is what I was getting at. What are the specs of the pads?

Ok so I am posting back now that I've got all four RB slotted rotors on and ET300s on all four wheels. The initial bite is definitely less than the stock pads and I believe that my problem is in the pads rather than the rotor or fluid. I did bed in all four pads and got the rotors heated up to around 500 f so I am sure that they are bedded in I just think that these pads are softer than the stockers. What would you folks recommend to replace these once I wear them out. I was looking at the Hawk HPS or the ET500 pads. Thanks for any help.

I'm currently using some Porterfield R4S. They take a beating in terms of extreme heat cycle fade resistance at the track, but they have virtually no initial bite. I agree that what you're experiencing is similar response in the compound.

I have the et 500 pads and they are great, very little to no dust, strong intial bite, and very little fade with high heat. I have heard good things about the hps but also heard that they aren't idel for the track....I would recomend et 500 or higher.........From the sounds of it you want a noticeable increase over stock.....would even consider et700 if I were you.
