R3 Owners: Mileage on original Bridgestones

Just wondering the life of the Bridgestones that come with the R3. Mine are wearing quickly. Might have something to do with the way I drive.

if u cared about that, u might as well get a new set of All seasons with at least 600 threadwear rating.

Is that the Bridgestone Potenza RE050a or RE040? If so, the 140 treadwear rating might have something to do with that. Just go with Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport next time.

I got my R3 at 18k, and ditched the RE050s at 25k. They had tread left but thats just because they'd been baked in a couple nevada summers and the rubber was hardened. I live in washington so I got the Michelin PSS which are very nice when the road is wet, but aren't the best in the dry. Way better than the RE050s though.

Really, the tires going is a good thing. The RE050s are pretty lousy (look at them on tire rack). FWIW, when I replace the PSS I'm probably going to go up to 245s or so, the PSS don't have as much of a shoulder to protect the rims :*(

i got my r3 with 120 miles, snow tires on at 7k and potenzas back on at 9k, and they were dead at 15k.

but i enjoyed every last bit of them lol.

but i have managed to slow down a little with my re-11's on, although those corners tease me constantly

Bought mine with 8k, made it to 15, rear were dead "rotated" by Nelson Mazda supposedly. The front are sill in my garage with about 35% tread wear left. I bought more RE050A's because they were $200 each on clearance for the 08' lot at Tire Rack. I haven't done solo 2 or any HPDE yet but I do drive and use all the rubber on the set (to the tread arrow on the sidewall). IMO if you want better mileage and great performance the Michelin Pilot Super Sports I believe are to be great with 300 something tread wear which to me is more than reasonable. Also the RE-11's should do quite well albeit assuming your okay with about 20-25k mi.

Simply put at full price there ARE better tires, but for $200 a piece ha ha, well I figured I couldn't beat it.

They really aren't a long life tire. Be careful going by treadwear ratings, as they can give you a good idea of tread life, but are only comparable to tires of the same brand. Everyone has their own idea of what a 300 is, etc.....

I think I replaced mine at 18k something.
they were pretty worn.

18k on my original tires right now and thats kilometers

pjs_tools 08-26-2012 12:31 PM

Mine bought at 4.5k, now at 16k, very little wear apparent well down on Lincoln's forehead - Looking forward to Michelin PSS when these OEM (050A) tires wear down!

Idk if they were replaced just before it was traded from the original owner but i have 36k with DD from 23k, a 1300mi trip, 2 auto-x and 1 time trial on mine and they are starting to get sketchy.
