Question on Wheel Size for this Pic
Hey gang,
So I was planning on picking up a set of the Advan RS gold (same used on the Knight Sports RX8) but I don't want to drop the money...and realize that it looks like crap due to the size I picked. If you guys check out this guys garage on here.. https://www.rx8club.com/vbgarage.php?do=view&id=3264 I PM'd him and he said those are 17's..they don't really look like it at all..But I'm no wheel specialist..So I couldn't tell you. Using this picture below.. What size wheel would you say these are? To me.. I have a feeling it's 18's and the car is lowered a bit.. http://www.yokohamakorea.com/sub/whe.../de_car_02.jpg So yeah..I don't want to order 19's and they're too big...or order 18's and they're too small. Just for a bit of reference..I plan to use the car as a street/daily driver and autocrossing this season with maybe some light track..nothing else for now. Thanks for the help. EDIT: these are examples of 19's also from the board.. this makes me think more that they're 19's now.. http://www.step-hen.com/rx8/CRW_0778_RJ.jpg http://www.step-hen.com/rx8/CRW_0779_RJ.jpg |
they look like 19s in the pic that you want. Usually show cars go for 19s because it fills out the wheel well better.
In the first link's pictures those look like 17s |
yea the 2nd link (knightsport) is 19s i believe
|
Nice. k ...Thanks guys. So looks like 19's it is. Any recommend a certain offset or anything? I'm still new to wheels so not sure about any of that...I like my wheels to stick out of the fender a bit, if that helps... :P
|
The problem with these wheels are they need a concave look to them, which means aggressive offset otherwise they look funky. I think you should go 18's since you want to auto-x, but then thats just me.
Try like: 18x9 Fr 18x9.5 Rr all +35 around there somewhere. Maybe someone else can chip in here. But Here are some pics of my friends car with 18x9 all round. http://www.tradebit.com/usr/chinky559/pub/8/wheel3.jpg http://www.tradebit.com/usr/chinky559/pub/8/wheel1.jpg |
Thats a nice, clean STI there your buddy has. Not bad. I dunno..Think I'm just leaning to the 19's..I saw a RX8 on the forums with 18's, a bit lowered and it just looked wrong...

I definitely wouldn't call it "wrong" to have dropped with 18s. Search the board for pics and you'll see plenty. |
the larger the tire, the slower the acceleration...
|
19's definitely look good as they fill the wheel well.
However, they're less practical for daily driving/autocross due to the necessitated lower profile tire. Keep in mind that tires are an integral part of your suspension system. 19" and 20" wheels are great for show, but 18" are better for go. |
I have 19s for the summers and 18s for the winters.
i prefer the 19s. height is never an issue |
forget about 19"s if you are planning auto-x. of course 19"s look better but you will need to lower your car for it to come out good.
this combination will result in rubbing during extreme cornering unless you roll your fenders, and prolly the safest you can do is 19x8.5 +40/35 offset with 245/35 tires. 18x8.5 all around with at least 245/40 tires will be a better choice in my opinion. 18x9.5 requires a special order offset (so that they won't rub) and you will need 275 widths which are heavy.:uhh: if you put wider tires at the back (staggered) that would create understeer which is usually bad unless you are comfortable with it. that pretty much sums things up, afaik.. but if you decide not to auto-x, you can do whatever you want. |

lol.. Alright. So basically... the 18 combination with some ...say...eibach springs would be good, huh? But still, in that Knight Sports pic.. You guys think those are 19's or 18s?
EDIT: http://blog.gtroc.com/dino/cars/index.php Check out September 23rd 2005 Article on the Knight Sport RX 8... Those look like 18s 8.5 I'd say...wouldn't you guys? I really want the best combo here.. :/ |
