PZ suspension
 
Hi all,

I have a 2004 S1 (231) and am looking at upgrading the suspension, nothing too heavy but would like good drive-ability and increased stiffness, I am thinking about the coils and springs found on the PZ (found a cheap supplier of a set) for simplicity but have a few qs:

Will the PZ suspension (coils and dampers) fit in the S1 as a direct replacement? Is the spring perch the same?

I know the PZ was made in 2006 and falls within the series 1 era however I don't know any other details about the suspension changes.

I know its also been asked but there's been no conclusive answer and I'm only asking in case any further knowledge has since been discovered but does anyone know which Bilstein shocks/eibach springs are used in the PZ, or are they a straight to manufacturer only part as previously suggested?

Any other set-ups that would provide similar results would be appreciated if anyone wants to make suggestions but I can read through the suspension articles at my own leisure if not.

It will fit the springs is -30mm i think.

oh the springs is only lower by -15mm but if you lower by that in future if you get a high flow cat it would hit the ramp. the handle would be much better than the orginal setup.

I've just put a new cat in a few months ago and tbh am happy with how the stock performs, although not the highest flowing available it's still pretty decent, I also don't want to risk premature deterioration but thanks alot for the warning.

I have found out I am going back to Uni next year now so the RX8 will shortly become a weekend only car with an MX5 as my DD. How comparable are the PZ shocks/springs to an aftermarket set such as Koni in terms of stiffness? I'm struggling to find anything that will help sway me on the forum, there's plenty of info but nothing on the PZ. I would prefer adjustable shocks, I'm not looking to slam my car or anything just a performance increase. Being able to stiffen it up at will would be good, I'd like something that is acceptable to use on the street (I'm pretty tolerable and do prefer it firm) on the lower settings but nothing too 'harsh' yet I can dial it in to be pretty solid for tracking (am planning on uprating the sway bars and end links as well). I'd rather avoid the hassle of coilovers too, just adjustable shocks paired with some springs. Any suggestions?

Well the pz suspension is really good after all is tune by prodrive you would notice the different right away . Not too harsh on bumpy road because is not really that hard if you were driving in the backroad it handle brilliant, mine pz would out do my brother 2009 sti in the backroad . even if you were to hit a polehole which the is plenty on are roads you should be fine.

Excellent I'll go with that then. After alot of reading these last two days it seems that alot of aftermarket shocks take quite alot of work to get them all balanced and weighted properly anyway and any adjustment would only throw all that off each time, so a nice set of already matched and balanced PZ it is :)
