8pot 14" disks front and 6 pot 13.4" disks rear. Would there may any problem with relation to master cyclinder etc

J8635621 12-23-2008 01:45 PM

Are you going to still have use of the parking brake?

Brettus 12-23-2008 01:52 PM

is this for a track car ?
if it is just a road car i have to ask .... why ?

CraigRX8 12-23-2008 04:21 PM

been offered front and year for $2800 brand new. or $2000 for just the front set. Regardles of parking brake i will be using one but a different way

MazdaManiac 12-23-2008 04:36 PM

Pedal travel and feel will be significantly altered.
Actual braking efficiency will probably be reduced - the stock RX-8 braking system is already too powerful for the tires.

CraigRX8 12-23-2008 05:17 PM

so something like a 4pot caliper on the front would be more than enough

MazdaManiac 12-23-2008 05:28 PM

Something like STOCK is best.
If you are running giant tires, an upgrade might help, but I can trip the ABS with 275s out back and 245s in front, so unless you are on race rubber, you will not see a performance benefit from bigger brakes. (Unless you are having real heat issues.)

CraigRX8 12-23-2008 05:29 PM

ok thanks jeff

Brettus 12-23-2008 06:22 PM

if you want to upgrade your brakes - good pads are the way to go .....

Another responce to that quote would be something along the lines like; but use caution they will eat your rotors ;)

No, they wont.

DOMINION 12-27-2008 10:41 PM

Realy wow. Thats odd. Cuz on my AT 8 with Hawk HP+ pads freaking killed my aftermarket rotors.

Brettus 12-27-2008 10:52 PM

/\ thats odd cos hawk hp+ didn't kill my stock rotors ?

DOMINION 12-27-2008 10:58 PM

I know right, and Hawk states on there web site they state; low brake dust B.S., low noise thats B.S. too. Maybe it was just me or a bad set of pads but I had them on in the blister heat of 100-120 and they still sucked.
Great stopping power but all the rest is for craps. I like the oem set up. Get the mastercyl brace and change your brake fluid often if you track or drive in the rain a lot and your good to go.

MazdaManiac 12-27-2008 11:02 PM

Crap rotors, not crap pads.

HP+ is not the right pads for the street, anyway. Should have gotten HPS.

DOMINION 12-27-2008 11:07 PM

Yup. Could have been the rotors I had.

A big fat zero. But I'm open to suggestions. But I read a lot lol

csl 12-28-2008 12:39 AM

I'm using front project mu 4 port BBK with 345mm rotor, rear Autoexe standard size 2 pieces slotted rotor. What I can say is, not so practical for town use (need to look at the back before braking, to avoid butt being kissed :D ). Use the master cylinder stopper on standard brake will be good enough. BTW, the original front caliper is super huge, the cyl size looks scary when removed. Like 4-5 ports all add together. Pay few times of pad price to have a bbk is just a waste if not use on track. I bought it more for cosmetic purpose. Regretted, but since the kit was expensive, need to use for a while before can let it go.

MazdaManiac 12-28-2008 12:43 AM

Import and Modified both tested the Mproject mU system right after SEMA in 2005 and both found it performed worse than stock.
Braking distance was increased by more than 15 feet and pedal modulation was sketchy at best.

kersh4w 12-28-2008 02:01 AM

jeez mm, way to pop his $2000 bubble.

Good spot!

I've gone and replaced just the rotors with slotted & cross drilled ones and l have to say, there isn't much difference from stock (not that l've done any test, just been once on the track to be honest). Probably best to keep that $2000, unless you really need to change your rotors?
