Dude your car looks exactly like what I was going to do! You beat me to it! :D
How much for the rims?

DreRX8 02-27-2005 01:27 PM

Say man--I wish you would stop posting pics with those rims that I want on your car--everytime you do I get out my calculator and bank book.

No big deal for me. It was more about appearance than absolute lightweight for me. I would have gotten some other 17" rims & tires if I wanted to reduce unsprung weight, instead of 19." I rarely do trackwork or 1/4 mi. times with thsi car, it's more about appearance & fast street drving with a occasional 1/4 mi. or track day.

I really wanted that twin spoke look, and it came down to these or the SSR GT3's. but I did not want to pay a fortune for them (other car stuff already cost me a pretty penny). I was unwilling to drop $2000+ for rims, even then I would have had to chrome the GT3's, that would have been another $600 to $800 right there and they weren't much lighter (around 28 lbs.). I did get the Toyo tires which are about 2 lbs. lighter than the stock Bridgestones & I have a set of Kyokugen lugs to lighten the weight a little bit.

Nice ride. I'm not a chrome person, but this is bad a$$.

smrx8 02-27-2005 07:38 PM

fanman is there any other rims that looks like that but lighter ??????

stownz 02-27-2005 09:55 PM

Hey Fanman, just installed the wheels today 18X8.5 front and back with Falkens tires ZE512. So far I haven't been getting any rubbing on the calipers and I'm using the stock lugs without spacers. I guess I better call edgar for the new lugs just in case. The mechanic also transferred the TPMS from the stock to the new wheels and it fit just fine. So far the tire pressure light haven't gone off. I guess these wheels are compatible with the TPMS.

I'll try to check tomorrow if it's sunny out and look at my calipers. Other than that, I'm waiting for my Tein H springs so I can have them installed. I hope I'll have enought space with my 245/40/18 tires. As far as the Falkens go, they feel really smooth. They are not as noisy as the Potenza and eventhough they are 40 series, they feel softer that the the OEM tires which are 45 series. The great thing about these tires is that their treadwear is 380.

Man, the TPMS didn't fit on my rims (the TPMS was off the rim). Maybe it is slightly different between 18" + 19". I'm bummed.

For some strange reason my Toyo T1S feel smoother, more compliant than my Bridgestones too & I have 30 aspect tires on the rear !

Good luck with the rims. We need pics.

Fanman, Your 8 looks goood! I just put new shoes on my yellow 8 as well. I was going to go with the Toyo T1S but opted for the Falken ST-115. They are incredibly quiet and smooth but I feel may be lacking slightly in the performance area. Can you give me some detail to what your Toyo's are like? Sticky? Noisy? Etc.? I may exchange my Falken's if you're really impressed with the Toyo's. Thanks in advance.

The Toyo's have pleasantly surprised me. They are a bit softer & quieter than the stock tires. Grip is a bit better. Haven't taken it out to the track though. I would say they are definitely better than the stock Potenzas. That being said I would not throw out your brand new $700-$800 set of tires for them. Since you are in Colombus you may as well ride out the winter with the Falken's. Falken will have a ultra high performance tire coming out the ST-615 that you may want to look at. Just came out and it is suppsed to by ridiculously good. Also in about 4-6 months Toyo will be introducing the Toyo T1R, which will be the replacement tire for the T1S. If you can wait (I could not) that might be better for you.

smrx8,

I was really looking at the SSR GT3 rims. They have a similar 2 spoke look, but with only 5 vs 6 tire spokes, and they are silver (I wanted chrome), & 2X+ more expensive than the Sterns. About 3 lbs. lighter per wheel. Although in general the twin spoke wheels tend to be heavier. It was a look that I like though.

Man, those are sweet looking! Nice selection

rx8power 03-01-2005 09:36 PM

Hey,

Looks good bro, my calipers don't rub at all but I think I'm gonna try the spacer, I think it looks better like that.

just went to mf tech a local dist for stern... i just bought the face III beast with 19X8.5 in the front and 19 X 9.5 in the back i got them in chrome ;)

st8tey 02-15-2006 10:55 AM

I just bought the same wheels the other day. Same specs. My factory pressure valve sensors fit, but the tires rub on the rear. Did you do anything to get yours to clear the rear fenders?
