OEM vs Sport Suspension Rotor?
Looking to replace all rotors and pads and I'm looking at a few slotted options..I notice that each pair offers both a sport or oem suspension rotor option? What does this actually make a difference in?
I have a set of Megan Racing springs in there now so should I be going sport? :beer05: |
standard suspension was on some early autos. if your car is a stick it has sport suspension.
waits for riwwp to chime in with all the technical stuff. this is just the short answer |
what base model do you have? if its a 6speed high power then yes get the sport very few have none sport in usa mostly the early 4port autos don't have sport if i remember correctly
edit: lol yup 200 beat me to it  |
You have a Sport suspension if ANY of these points are true:
- Manual transmission - 2009+ (possible 2006+? I am not sure if it was removed for any series 2 years) - Touring or Grand Touring Trim - Carbon Fiber driveshaft - Limited Slip Diff - Inability to fit 16" wheels over the calipers (which is almost certainly true if you have the common OEM 18" wheel, and not the rarer 16", though wheels can be swapped around easily) A vast majority of RX-8s out there have the sport suspension. Only base model automatics without the sport suspension package added have the standard suspension, and of base model automatics, even this is only a portion because many of those still got the package. |
Well I'll take it RIWWP kind of waited for this thread to pop up..thanks guys!

Any thoughts as to what I should run for rotors?

OEM rotors is entirely sufficient. Crossdrilled is highly discouraged. Slotted is viable, but doesn't benefit anything on the street.
The only real brake upgrade is if you either go to lightweight rotors (for better dynamics), and/or a big brake package. |
most will say oem rotors are fine but i like the slotted/drilled ones. ive been running r1 concepts without any problems
|
RotorPros sells dimpled/slotted rotors. They are the ones I have on my car. Price is quite reasonable too.

Just sent a quote in to RotorPros :)
|
If you have yellow OEM sway bars, then you should have the sport suspension. From what I've been told at least.

I don't have oem sways :( ...fml
|
So...zero patience in waiting for a quote resulted in me going full slotted drilled through R1Concepts...guy was really cool and when I said RX-8..."Is that one of those hamster driven things"...pretty much made my day!!

hoss..
RotorPros still hasn't responded and I have time next week to install these so I want to make sure I have them for my day off. I stated that I don't have "OEM" sways..Agency Power has a nice front and rear that I use instead. See links below: Agency Power 32mm Front Adjustable Sway Bar Agency Power 19mm Rear Adjustable Sway Bar |
