Not good
 

So, I ordered a tire and wheel package from Tirerack. Ordered what was recommended and they arrived last night. Went to put them on this morning. I went with 17" rims.

Did the back tire first. Seemed a little tight, but it went on alright.

Then I went to the front right tire.

Put it on the same way using the centering ring. Get it on to check that it's alright. Turns about 1'2 way and locks up. So, I'm thinking WTF. So, I take it off and I notice that the centering is cracked, but seated completely on. So, I'm thinking I'll try again. So, I put it on and the same thing happens. Wheel just locks up. This time nothing is wrong with the centering ring, but the inside of the rim is gouged pretty bad.

So, now I'm freaking out.

No idea what's wrong. I was assured that these would fit. What could be causing my problem here? What is it likely locking up on. The gouge is halfway around the inside of the rim. I hope this didn't do anything to the car. Hell, I just got this damn thing a week ago today. Drove it home and basically parked it until I got the rims/tires. Woke up pretty excited I could get those on and finally drive it around. This really stinks.

Called tirerack. I read off the numbers he says it indicates it should fit (he was thinking maybe I got the wrong rim). Then he says he needs to research it and call me back. That was 2 hours ago. Now, I'm getting pissed.

So, are the wheels grinding on the brake caliper?
Can you post a picture of the wheel on the car showing the caliper and a picture of the inside of the wheel.

Not all 17" wheels will clear the front brakes.

I would gladly post a pic, but I can't upload pics from my digital camera as my dog chewed the mini USB cable on me. LOL!

I just got a hold of Conner at Tirerack. He was more then helpful and based on the situation, we are going with different rims that many people have used by what he said.

I am getting the same tires, but Kosei rims instead. They should be here by the end of the week/start of next week.

do you have an aftermarket caliper installed?

Did you bend your brake rotor shield at a weird angle when installing?

I bought the car new last Saturday. Nothing has been changed.

As far as the shield goes, it has kind of a weird angle now. What's it supposed to look like so I can make sure I didnt?

The gouge I was noticing was also about halfway inside the barrel of the rim.

its supposed to be parallel to the brake rotor, about half an inch away.

These are really easy to bend when installing wheels.

The bend in the brake shield is normal. Just compare the two sides.

Thanks. As DarkBrew mentioned, I will just compare with the other one when the new rims come in. I looked real quick and it did look very similiar.

can you take any pictures of the problem? digital camera? cell phone?

Unfortunately, no. I put the factory rims back on and had no issues whatsoever

Turned out the problem was the rim itself. There was a mistake in their system in that it showed it fit with no issues, but that wasn't the case.

That being said, Connor definitely took care of the problem and my new set of rims/tires arrived tonight. I got the same size Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds, but went with Kosei 17" rims. There were no issues whatsoever with those fitting.

So, my car is now sitting in my garage with my winter set on it. Basically, put them on with no fitmant issues, torqued them down, checked the tire pressures, and then went on a drive to make sure they were fine. Drove a little farther then I intended, but couldn't help it. Kind of sucked lately to see it sitting in the garage and not driving it. Had no issues with the drive and I am happy with how they look. My RX-8 is Velocity Red and I got the Kosei's in light grey.

Anyway, just wanted to thank everyone again and give an update.

at least i learned that not all 17s clear our brakes....haha
