New Tire Brands Preference
Hello,
Fairly new to this forum of asking questions regarding my 2004 Rx-8. I have had my car for 15 months and just today had a flat tire that a screw messed up and have to purchase a new one. Before I buy just 1 thru the dealership, I am thinking of buying 2 new ones to match and wanted to get some feedback on brands of tires people have liked the most for these cars??

Handkook Ventus v12 k110 for good, smooth, quiet, and cheap summer tire.
Continental ExtremeContact DW for even better but costlier quiet summer tire.
Continental DWS for all season with some snow capability.
Hankook rs-3 for sticky on street and track, but quick wear and gravel throwing.

Rolling on Yokohama S.drive 245/40R18 tires on stock rims....really pleased and would recommend same.
Had a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires previously, but they have been discontinued in that size.
Regardless of what you go with - get pricing from Tire Rack (or other online sites) and make sure your local tire shop matches or beats that pricing.

I bought a set of Cooper Zeon RS-3S a few months ago, and I've been very happy with them. Great traction wet or dry, very quiet, and the price from a local dealer was about the same as buying Hankook Ventus V12s from Tire Rack. I would recommend these highly.

Michelin vs. Continental Tires? (Summer)..
Hi all,
Looking for a nice Summer tire...
I have a 2005 RX8 6-speed Tire size: 225/45/R18
I currently have Michelin Alpin PA3 Winter tires right now.
They are great in the snow and the cold.
However, my current Summer tires, are a bald set of 4 Goodyear's.
I like how the Winter Michelin tires ride.
I have never bought Continental tires for my 2005 RX8.
Anyone have any experience with Continental and/or the tires below?
It looks like I could save some money with Continental and road hazard is included, but I just don't know how they handle or if they are a comfortable ride? Noisy?

I don't "Like" expensive tires. I am just looking at what some people have recommended to me. And the less expensive the better. I don't think you have to buy a expensive to get the results you're looking for.

No Yokohama's for me. Unless they throw in lifetime replacements for free.

Can't comment on what works best on the ZX8, but I had six different set of performance tires on my 06, FWD Audi A3.
1) Michelin Pilot Sport PS2- Outstanding dry traction, stiff sidewalls, very good wet performance. Had two sets of this tire. Expensive, though. Both sets went 20-23K. Highly recommended.
2) Goodyear Eagle F1 something or another. Excellent dry handling, but sucked in wet conditions. Even moderate speed during a light drizzle was enough for these to break free. Terrible performance at cold temps, too. Couldn't wait to replace them at around 20K miles. RUN AWAY!!!
3) Yokohama S-Drives. Very nice tire for the price. Performance was almost as good as the Pilot Sport PS2s, but at a markedly lower price. Solid wet and dry performance. Lasted about 24K and could have gone a little further. Recommended.
4) Sumitomo HTR ZIII. Good tire. Performance was a little less than that of the Yokohamas, but price was about $25 less/tire. I would use these again if $$ was an issue. Recommended.
5) Falken FT-452. I think that that was what they were named. Supposed to be a 40K tire, but as I approach 20K miles with, it was clear that they wouldn't make it to 25K. Below average performance due to soft sidewalls- could feel the flex when negotiating a hard turn. Wet performance was good. Hard to recommend these.

So you didn't have the Michelin Pilot Sport? You have the Pilot Sport PS2 only?
I'm wondering what the biggest difference is between these two sets? Will have to look at others. Thanks again! :D

Currently, my RX8 has the OEM Bridgestone Potenza 050A tires. I've put almost 1000 miles on them. Good dry traction, seem to be good in the twisties. So far, they appear to handle well under wet conditions, but there's hasn't been any substantive rain in Central California this winter, so I really haven't tested them in this regard.
The car, however, does seem to ride a little bouncy at higher speeds and it won't tract true if I take my hands off the steering wheel. Seems like a tire issue to me, but I'm still learning the car, so it ain't fair to blame the tires yet.
