New rotors (DBA 4000xs)

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
Just thought l'd post some photos of the new dba discs before l put them on this weekend. Can't wait till saturday. I'll make sure to post some feedback and before/after photos too.

Impressive build quality by the looks of it too, and to be honest, should look alright on.

Cheers,
Gavin.

Yeah, for us Aussies it's the best brand you can get your hands on without importing.

All up l paid (rear: $659 AUD, front: $659 AUD) $1318 AUD, which according to google is $891 USD.

Depends on your situation. I spoke with the guys at DBA and they recommend these rotors if you visit the track maybe every now and then (i said a maximum of 6 times a year). Don't quote me but l don't think they make the 5000 series for the rx8 anyway, but its worth checking.

Also, in terms of pads, they suggested the Bendix heavy duty's. Another Aussie brand l believe...

they make the 5000 series for the front only
maybe look at some project mu's for two piece?

Well here's some updated pics guys:

They were a hassle to get on as one of the pistons (not the brake piston itself) in the right rear caliper was seized, eventually fixed that issue though. Anyway, they feel great so far. Well worth the investment in my opinion. Now it's just a 4 month wait for the front rotors to be made and delivered :-(

why does it look like the pad wasnt covering the entire surface of the old rotor?

really nice looking rotor.

Don't know, but even the new pads aren't covering the full surface.

And here's a photo:

That's quite normal for the rear.

They don't contact the whole exposed surface of the rotors.

The fronts do the same thing but not as much is exposed.

Thanks for that! Thought there could have been something wrong there...

Sure thing.

Don't want someone worrying about something that is a non-issue.

I think I forgot to mention that the pattern on those rotors is crazy! I wonder how they perform?

Yeah, they look quite different on. Don't mind them actually.

As for performance, haven't been on the track yet, but they preform quite well on the street.

Cheers.

Guess what guys, l received an early christmas present today! Just in time too as there is some slight shuddering coming from the front.

Above is a the front rotor with one of the stock rear rotors, can't wait to pop them on.

Will post up some photos/impression when l'm done.

imput1234 12-19-2008 08:49 PM

How much do these weigh?

2SeeKU 12-23-2008 12:50 AM

Sorry for the slow reply.

The front rotor (single, as there's 1 per box) is 8.7 kg, or 19.1 lbs:

nvrfalter 12-29-2008 03:22 AM

i think if you woulda got the 2-piecers, the pad contacts the whole surface it's supposed to

Optical TDI 12-29-2008 10:11 AM

FYI...I just weighed the 2-piece 5000 series rotor. It's 16.4 lbs. So, only a 2.7 lb weight reduction for the 2-piece DBA rotor. I was hoping for more.

What is the weight of the stock rotor? Probably the same as the DBA 400 series.
