Please do a search........it's been covered about one bagillion times. Your stock offset is +45. You can go to tirerack.com and they have some good info and fitment guide.
BTW, my SPYN wheels are +40 and I definitely feel some difference in steering and handling. I think my next wheels will be closer to 50. |

No prob. Take it easy.

Would a smaller offset mean the wheel will be mounted closer to the car? (wheel to wheel width is narrower)?
Wouldn't it also depend on the distance from the outer wall of the wheel to the hub face as well? My understanding is that wheel offset is the distance from the centre line of the wheel to the hub. So a lower offset has less distance, so it's closer to the car? But that seems to go against what I've been hearing on the forum. Can someone enlighten me? |

Thanks Darkbrew, the calculator is useful, but for me, I'm trying to get the understanding. Which I don't understand.
Suppose two wheels, both are 8" wide. One has 50mm offset, the other has 48mm offset. If offset is the distance between the centre of the wheel and the outer wall, wouldn't the 48mm wheel be mounted closer to the car? Why is it that the 48mm offset is actually further out? Using the calculator, it says it will extend it 2mm more and give 2mm more inner clearance. I can't quite visualize why the 48mm is mounted wider when the offset is less. |
Offset is the distance from the centerline to the mounting face of the wheel
So a +48 offset lip will be 2mm out from the lip on a +50 wheel..you won't need to worry about 8mm wheels till you get into the +30 range.....if you go wider though....it will matter. +45 9.5" wheels barely fit...so use that as a place for the outer rim...and go from there |
from what i know:
left wheel as an example: +++++O----- +=+offset -=-offset O=centerline so choosing wisely if goin wider with wheels to go with too low of a positive offset so you can keep them in ur fenders. |
