Need to get new tires for my RX-8...
 

I was looking into the Pilot Sport Z ratings because it seems like so many RX8Club members tend to lean towards these. My car has 16k miles on it and I guess I got a little too happy to often because my rears failed inspection.. well my right rear to be exact. :confused:

Anyway, I was doing some shopping around and found that my local Sams carries them at $245 installed per tire. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on how to bring this price down a bit. I love my car and I plan to get 4 new tires, although the fronts are fine... As you are buying the car, burning the tires etc you aren't really thinking about the day you have to pay... But boy oh boy am I thinking about it now... :p

PS - I am also looking at PZero's but from what I have read in reviews the Pilot Sport are the way to go... $245.. :(

I like the Toyo T1s's very good tire.

I like the S03s.

I am pretty confident that the Mich are the way to go... I am more interested in methods for finding a better price. I have seen the stricky thread that has some online places to purchase from but after installation Sams still comes out better.

If you could wait, then sometimes you can get dollars off with Michelin rebates, but that may not be an option based on your position.

One thing to think of is if Sam's is similar to Costco, you get the road hazard warranty, free balance and rotation and free install.

I've already used the road hazard warranty once, so it's paid off already.

I would recommend yokohama AD07 if it's available in the States.
Its performance is still not very well on the wet road but better than P zero nero is. On the dry way, its grip is superb and quiet. Most Japan tuners think this tire is better than BS S03s.

I'm up for tires too - I got the S03's priced at the local firestone and they want $1100 to do them... ouch.

Curious what tire life you're thinking you'll get from the S03's you have?

maybe 15000 tops? :P I got staggered setup, so the rears are going to get hurt pretty bad... prolly change them around 15000-20000 miles. That's another 500 bucks for tires.

Either go to www.tirerack.com or wait for a rebate on the tires. Tire Rack has pretty much the cheapest price on the specific tire that you are looking for & sometimes they will have sales on particular tires as well. The good thing about a sam's club or a Costco is that you get the tires installed & balanced there, & you get the road hazard warranty. Only you can decide is the savings (probably about $30-$40 per tire) is worth the hassle.

Tirerack special on 235/40x18 at $177.00 looks good.
245/40x18 at $224.00 was my choice until I checked another size.

Okay I am really confused here...

I am trying to buy some Pilot Sports. The first shop I went to made it simple.

I had 1 choice.

Now the next shop I am going to is saying there are 4 different ones, and if I want them to try and beat the price they need to know exactly which one it is.

When I called the first shop they said they were the 91Y version.

So I called the second shop back and they said none of their versions match that.

I am not sure how I can get these two shops to give me the information I need.

All so I can get them in a price war. :)

Look under the size. The 91 is the load rating and the Y is the speed rating of the tire. The 91Y model is the Porsche OE while the 95Y is the non-OE model. Hope this helps.

I bought a set of S03 in 245/40 and love em. Would suggest them for anyone who likes lots of stick. My first choice was F1's in the same size but they were having some kinda production problem and I couldn't get em. I've surely been pleased with the S03's for almost 10k miles, so far................... They ended up at 1053.00 with shipping from TireRack and mount and balance at the dealer.
Unfortunately I found a 250.00 bolt. It didn't look like that trick of a bolt, it was just sticking out of the shoulder of my BRAND NEW right rear tire. I had less than 1k on them when this happened. I was looking really bright for saving that 177.00 road hazard warrantee...................

PS- Michelins are French...........................................

I recently bought Falken Azenis ST115 245/40 18 ZR and love em. They are great in the rain which is very important here in Florida. It has great dry traction as well as it is a smoother ride. Besides tirerack you can go to www.tire.com and compare prices. There is a section there where you can type in your zip code and find a tire shop there that will mount and balance for a good price. You can call the tire shop directly and they may be able to get them from a local warehouse and give you a better price than online. That is what I did; I got all 4 tires mounted and balance for $740.00. But good luck!
