Mazdaspeed Shocks with OEM Springs Review

I recently installed Mazdaspeed shocks and stuck with stock springs. I thought I would post some information because I found there was little available. The following was posted about these shocks on this forum: "The Rear rebound runs about 75% stiffer. Rear compression is actually softer by 15% or so once 3 in/sec is hit but the same as stock before that speed. Front rebound and compression is about 25% stiffer."

In my experience there's a difference, but they feel somewhat similar to the stock stocks. They seem to improve the transient behaviour and the car is less jittery over back road highway bumps. They feel a little stiffer, but it's not that noticeable.

I wanted to go with non-adjustable shocks because I don't feel I'm particularly adept at setting adjustable shocks. I'd recommend these, but don't expect them to completely transform the car. Then again I was already very pleased with the car's handling. These shocks are a really good deal though one source in particular. By staying with the stock springs the ride quality is still good and it keeps on in the stock AutoX class.

Nice to know, thanks for the review.

are these shorter than stock, spring base or shaft?

To the best of my knowledge everything about the physical dimensions are exactly the same.

any long term updates?

I'm having hard time deciding if I should get the Mazdaspeed or Bilstein shocks to go with Eibach springs.

+1 to this

If that is spring base then the physical dimension is exactly same.

Long term update: They're good daily drivers and the way they handle transitions and corner changes is excellent. I've somewhat lost my frame of reference to what the old shocks were like, so that should give you an idea of how streetable they are. I've done a couple of lapping days and I was very pleased with the car's handling, the car is very predictable and handles bumpiness well. If you're trying to decide which shocks to buy, join Mazdamotorsports (eg. you'll need a minimum 2 AutoXs under your belt per year), and it should make the decision a little easier. ;)

Has anyone bought these from Mazdatrix? I want to buy a front and rear set of mazdaspeed shocks, looking for the best price on these.

Thanks

I have a question; what did Mazdaspeed say in their review about the OEM springs that was so shocking? LOL

Looks like you know, care to share with some of us that are new to the forum?
