Mazdaspeed Brake Pads
 

I just ordered myself some mazdaspeed brake pads. anyone else have these? pros cons? if i wanna switch brake fluid what should i go with?

I have MS brake pads. I have done 2 track days with them. These pads do not stop the car better than the stock pads, BUT they stop it for much much much longer without fading!

No problems in snow days.
They are a little bit noisy, but nothing unacceptable :)
Brake rotors friendly.
Temperature range is from 0°C to 400°C.

I also use Motul RBF600 for brake fluid...it is the top for me.

Next brake pads will be EBC Redstuff...less dust, less noise, more performance but a little more unfriendly with brake rotors.

why did you get the MS pads? there are better track pads for the same/less money. What did those bad boys cost you for a set?

What is the reference numbers for the porterfield kevlar pads (front and rear) please?
On their website they show different compounds, but with the same reference number...strange.

i wanted to go with a product that would keep everything down there under warranty and something i didn't have to install myself. about $300 for the whole job.

wow, I know a set of Hawks HP+ only cost about $60 an axel thru rotaryextreme.com and to swap out the brake pads is roughly a 5 min job. It really is super easy.

the only vehicle i have ever made modifications to ran on a motor and was roughly 1/12 scale. A mechanic i unfortunately am not...and i sure as hell am not going to start my mechanical fiddling around with the system that allows me not to run into trees on my 30000 dollar sports car.

i'd like to learn how, but i dunno anyone nearby to teach me and i sure as hell am not going to an ITT tech place.

well yeah but i imagine brake pads need to be situated just perfectly with adhesives and screws and such and have the proper gaps between rotors and all that fancy jazz...not just an in and out like a razor blade.

Its not difficult to swap pads as long as you have the tools, it was my first DIY.

Nope- disc brakes are pretty much self adjusting. No adhesives, screws, or manual gapping. Just take off the tires, pull two bolts, swap out the pads, and reverse.

What are the Hawks like, im thinking about changing to aftermarket pads but don't want excessive rotor wear. i'm after something that has less dust. I'm happy with the current brake pads because i don't track my car

then I would NOT reccomend the HP+'s, they are mainly track/autocross pads

To your question, if you are not planning to do Autox or HPDEs etc., the stock fluid (DOT 3) will perform more than adequately for you.

Sinc eyou put on the MS Pads, I assume you are going to the track. But perhaps you just want to upgrade then get any DOT 4 fluids. the Motul 600 mentioned one, ATE Super Blue is another and the list goes on and on (FORD makes a less expensive DOT 4 fluid, Castrol LMA DOT 4 is also cheap). The choices within this area seem to come down to how often are you willing to change it and what exactly are you doing with the car. More high speed track time = changing more frequently...

yeah i experienced some pretty scary brake fade and i wanna say good bye to that...i'll be grabbing one of these DOT 4 liquids...how much do i need for one change (number of oz., Liters, bottles)?

1 1L can of ATE Super Blue is all you need to completely flush the braking system (actually you'll have over 1/2 can left after you're done)
