Lost my Wheel Lock Key
So, I somehow misplaced the key to my wheel locks. They are the OEM ones and I need to change out my tires. Anybody know how to get these off without the key? How much would Mazda charge for a new key? Thanks in advance!

There should be a manilla folder that the key was in, that had instructions on what to do if you lost it, or like abbid said, go have someone get them off..

<$20.00 to replace it.
Check with the dealer to see if they registered the re-order number with your VIN.
Mine did not but they did strip my key. A tire shop owner told me the OEM locks are made by Mcgard so I called them. http://www.mcgard.com/contact/ I took a digital picture of my lock pattern and sent it to Mcgard, paid $19.99 by credit card and they shipped me a new key. Now I took a pic of my stripped key so you may have to take a clay mold of one of your locks. EDIT I should also mention that I could not use the Mazda master key because of my after-market wheels and could not use any lock removal kits for the same reason (no clearance). Of course after the fact everyone tells me I should be using tuner lugs with my wheels even though they put the wheels on my car with the OEM lock!! |
If you take it to a local dealership that you have a good relationship with, they should remove it for you free of charge. Just put one four regular acorn nuts in place; that's what I did. Wheellocks are a negative feature in my opinion; it's better to just leave them off.

Negative feature?

thanks for the post John -
remember at the meet i told you i called up the dealership and they quoted me 60 bucks - 20 for bustin' the locks off and 35 for a set of OEM lugs...pretty weak compared to what abbid is saying - im gonna go to discount tires after work tomorrow...lol |
Those of you that choose to not use wheel locks please leave your address. You might want to check your insurance policy. Mine reads that if the car came equipped with them and they get stolen without the nuts then they are not covered.

Thanks for the replies.

Tustin Mazda took it off for me for free. Of course, I did just buy something from Bob at the time, but I'd suggest not talking to their service writer, but instead the parts guy. They're generally more reasonable anyway.
Yes I think they're a negative feature, as in something I really don't like having included with the car. Other negative features for me include power seats, heated seats, leather seats, back seats, etc. |
I have another question. I have a midpipe on my car which is throwing a CEL. If I bring it to Mazda just for the wheel locks, would they cancel the warranty right away?

Thanks guys for all the help :) |
You know, for all those out there... Mazda only has 5 different wheel locks, so you can ask a fellow Mazda owner if you can borrow theirs. When I lost my wheel locks, Mazda took mine off for me and I bought a set of gorilla Hex wheel locks, no more sockets scratching my wheels.
|
^hmmmm....
5 different wheel locks you say?? hmmmm...hey! Renesis SE3P, DOZER, TAJ, APOCOLYPSE, MEGAMAN...can i see your stock key locks for a second?? :) |
Yes sir.... The MS3 wheel lock worked on my car. Does anyone want to buy 4 locks with no key??? ;)
