Looking to buy a NEW Coilover suspension. Whats your opinion???

Hey what's up guys. I want to order a new suspension this week. I currently have Megan's, But it's time for a new set, so im thinking of something different. What do you guy's suggest and why.

I'll be using the car for lots of spirited driving, and auto X, plus weekend driving. Just got another car so after this week the 8 will nolonger be a DD HOLLA...

Get stance and sell me your megans!! Pm me if you gonna sell them!

Sifu 10-09-2010 06:49 PM

I love my Stance

My friend had the Greddy coils and they performed really well for him.

Stance seems to be the coilover of choice on Rx8club. This might be the way I end up going. They seem to be very durable, and everyone seems to be satisfied with there performance.

I also have been considering the BC coilovers, because of Dave's (from ModifiedMag) write up. Lets see. I need a new set asap.

pss9, or fork up some $$$ for motons or jrz, no point in upgrading coilovers from what you currently have if all your gonna do is stance

NYC Drift King 10-09-2010 09:54 PM

Pss9 are in price range. But let me read some more reviews on them.

I agree. Another good option is a set of Ohlins (I love mine).

I love my KW Variant 3's, quality construction, the recommended setting works great for street and spirited driving, stiffen it up and they are right at home on the track.

I got a guy too, so the price was pretty good too.

HKS Hypermax III'S
amazing coilovers, I'm absolutely loving mine.

What other car did ya get?

imput1234 10-10-2010 02:16 AM

BC and Megans are the same. but BC's will make you a custom set. STANCE does too and will be an actual upgrade.

Awesome! I'm was planning to get a set next week, please let me know... how much life do you think they have left?

lzhmax 10-10-2010 03:31 AM

Save some $$$ and get a set of Ohlins.. They are fantastic! Or at lower price range, choose PSS9.

c0ldf1ame 10-10-2010 03:38 AM

i had my bilsteins revalved by this guy

http://fatcatmotorsports.com/

works great

Rotary-RX8 10-10-2010 03:27 PM

I myself am looking for some coilovers. But not until spring. No poiint on getting them now in the winter approaching. Im going with either the stance gr or tein flex with the EFDC

The shocks seem good. I've had them for 3 years. The main reason for change is that one of the springs cracked in HALF. So I need a new set of coilovers ASAP. I message Megan to get a new set. Lets see how long it takes them to answer.

PSS9's seem like there great, but maybe a bit to much coilover for me. I'm not going to have them re-valved, and or adjusting them all that often. I'm not racing professionally or often. Just pushing the car occasionally. I'm thinking Stance might be the way right now or HKS Hypermax III'S.

NYC Drift King 10-10-2010 10:45 PM

edit: Dont mind my previous post. I've been doing more researching. =] I had a big meet today. I couldn't get to it till now.

Damn I've been doing lots of searching the last hour. And it seems the Pss9's are LOTS better than the Stance agree'ed?

And the price difference is only $183 dollars. Hmmmm Help guys.

i would go bilstein for sure, only reason to want stance is if you wanna slam your car, but i know you live in ny so i doubt thats what your looking for

c0ldf1ame 10-11-2010 12:21 AM

yea i think bilsteins are better if you want performance, you dont need to revalve your shocks or go with custom springs, thats always an option later. Stance is good if you just want to get slammed. But its not good for handling to go that low anyways haha

nycgps 10-11-2010 12:50 PM

I had HiperMax III, but it got pwned by NYC Street cuts (I fuxking hate NYC I swear)

and Im using Ohlins now. Thought u know Omar.

I would say HiperMax III is better than stock and Ohlins much better than Hipermax III.

Hipermax III is a bit harsh on the street. it might have something to do with its Monotube design. if u go Hipermax III u better be sure you leave the factory settings as is or you gonna have a hard time setting it back to the right settings (dont ask me how I know~)

I still have my set of Hipermax III Im planning to send it back to HKS to do a rebuild. its gonna be expensive cuz it broke. so will see.

For Ohlins, you have A LOT of spring options cuz you're free to get any kind of spring you want. the one came with the coilover are 8k/5k. Front is same as HKS but rear is 1K softer (stock like). the shock is really high quality and at default settings (10 step) its same ride quality as stock. If you turn it to 20 hoho you can take any twisties you want without fear. :) and Ohlins recommend you to rebuild the shocks every 15K miles or so. Im not sure if Im gonna do that. maybe every 20 K.

bad thing about Ohlin is price, it will cost at least 1K more than Hipermax III.

Speaking of Stance, I had them for my FC before, for the price its actually pretty good. Just a bit too bumpy for NY streets. but I set it to hardest so maybe thats why? I sold it and got all brand new stock again.

Stance should cost about the same as Hipermax or PSS9. but if I were u I probably gonna go Stance, their support is really good. For HKS if something goes wrong you HAVE TO go thru their dealership network. They will not work directly with end-users. Dunno about Blistein.

JinDesu 10-11-2010 01:11 PM

If you want to hear a review on the Stance GR, speak to Ray.

Although I'm pretty sure my car's suspension corners harder than his :lol2:

In my case, on an R3, the Ohlins DFVs (at the soft setting) are actually more comfortable than the OEM suspension. The car doesn't feel nearly as harsh when going over bumps and potholes. But unless I'm on the track, I feel like I'm wasting away the shocks on the street. I'm glad they are rebuildable.

I never really tried the softest settings, just left it at default 10. maybe I should try it.

yeah its a total waste if you don't go on a track.

Its rebuild-able but I have a feeling it won't be cheap.
