Knuckle support - yay or nay?
4 Attachment(s)
Hi guys,
My buddy over at Rev9 (my source for many of my rare, hard to find Japanese parts) showed me these pieces. Would these NC-specific knuckle supports work for the RX8? Any advantages? The guys over Nielex have sold a quite a few of these to NC owners and they have all reported good remarks on the product. Its intent is to stop deflection on the OE knuckle support. Keeping a more consistent suspension geometry. Yay or nay? Nielex Front Knuckle Support: Attachment 265116 Nielex Front Knuckle Support (installed): Attachment 265117 VS. OEM Front Knuckle: Attachment 265118 They also have the rear knuckle supports as well: Attachment 265119 What do you guys think? |
I'm going to have to say don't bother.
If a piece of Cast Iron has that much deflection that you need a brace it would have been broken a long time ago. That little piece of sheet metal is going to do nothing. The foot lbs needed to snap that cast piece are far greater than the foot lbs it would take to bend that little bracket. |
^^^
I can see what you mean. It does seem to offer the most support at the upper control arm to knuckle joint. The sides are bent to actually further reinforce that particular movement I guess. I'm not too savvy with suspension links, arms, and what not. I know there are a lot of items on the market that are completely unnecessary. Nielex has sold these to many NC owners in Japan. A couple of them run in the NCEC Challenges in Japan and frequent tracks like Tsukuba and Fuji Speedway. I was just showing these because they have been getting very popular on track cars over there. |
I think its a good way to loose money.
I can not believe I agree with Easy1 :) |
Consider it a fad. It's something new. Oh it must work great.
You look at a part and what it does. What is it's function. What is it improving. Then make a decision. |
I love posting products on this board......
They get chewed up and beat on before making BHR's approval list ey? Point well taken on the support. |

NAY.
reasons as others stated. and the fact that a cotter pin can not be easily reused, is a red flag to me. just think IF that nut backed out... you'll be in for more than you bargained for. its gimmick item to me. all other suspension would give way BEFORE enough force is put to flex that piece... perhaps those aluminum control arms we have??? |
I came into this thread expecting pics of some sort of orthopedic driving gloves...

^^or perhaps a hand held weapon.... but ended up with these.
perhaps i shall quote teamrx8? |
