Just arrived: Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S

I didn't expect them to come in for another 4-6 weeks, but there they were on my porch the other day -- Goodyear Eagle F1 in 245/40/18. I'm not installing them until Spring, but I thought I'd post some pics to show what they actually look like. Also haven't seen any real threads about them yet. Reviews have been great for this tire in general, and the tread pattern is beautiful and aggressive for an all-season tire.

For some reason on these particular tires, there seems to be a lot more stuff printed on the tread from the factory that I don't remember seeing on other tires I've bought over the years. Some of it is just crayon, but the white stuff is harder to remove and is actually down inside the tread. Hopefully it won't be too visible when on the car. This is my first set of Goodyears, and I will try to post impressions of the tires once they're on the car!

I'm looking at these too. Let us know how you like them.

i have them on my car, exactly the same size fitted on +38 offset FNO1R-C, they are great; they maybe the best AS tires so far. but they have huge trace/mark/lines(whatever you wanna call them) as you can see. it is easy to get some big rocks stuck in it and makes a lot noise. I was really frustrated by those noise sometimes. it means those tires somehow need you to really take care of. for example, when u go for a car wash, u should use a screwdriver to clean those rocks off ur tires often.

i got the Eagle F1 gs-d3 in 245/40/18.... whats the difference between the two...
well its way better than stock either way

Are you saying they are loud in general or just when a rock gets wedged between the tread?

Well, it took some time for this thread to gain some steam. ;) I didn't expect it to really, since I hadn't mounted them yet (and still haven't).

But yeah, I also read that you can get rocks and stuff wedged into the large tread on these tires. Noise wasn't a real issue on 99% of the reviews I read on tirerack and discount tire direct. Most reported they were fairly quiet and that they performed nearly like a summer tire, with superior wet traction. However, I'm sure if you tracked these tires and were used to a stiffer tire, you'd be able to tell the difference. But I'm really interested to see how the carbon fiber reinforced sidewalls perfom with these tires.

The GS-D3 is one of Goodyear's max performance summer tires. Good reviews from what I've seen, but definitely in a different league from the F1 all-seasons. A friend of mine just put them on his GTO and likes them so far. He also expects to use them in the winter which I would never do here in Baltimore.

I just got some 245/40/18 GS-D3's on my car. Haven't really had time to judge much about them yet, but they are a bit noisier than the RT-615s I had before. By that I mean road noise is more, but the ride may be marginally better than the RT-615s.

As far as tread, I like the weird tread design, very aggressive, but I also liked the weird RT-615 tread too. Too soon to tell about picking up road stuff.

These A/S version look very similar but have all the swipes like an ice tire in them. Prob better for winter driving.

Whoa, that's gotta be one big rock to make noise...

I had them installed last month. So far, I absolutely love them. MUCH quieter than stock and awesome wet traction. I haven't had the problem with rocks getting stuck, but I'm sure it could happen. The grooves are wide, but very aggressive looking!

I'm glad to hear that! What size did you get? Any pics of them on the car?

I'm at work at the moment and car's in for service (standard 4 year stuff). I'll try to take a pic this weekend and post assuming the sun comes out.

Hey Guys I just got a pair of Eagle F1 AS put on they are great they handle well and very quiet can't wait till they are well broken in
D.

Huey52 04-04-2008 03:51 PM

I just can't decide between F1 GS-D3's and the F1 Asymmetricals, but have decided on 245/40/18 all around. Anyone compared both?

No Winter '8 driving for me or the decision would be easy, F1 All Seasons.

Also glad to hear you like these tires. I'll be getting mine mounted pretty soon. Just out of curiosity, are you anywhere near White Marsh or Baltimore County in general?

Huey52 04-05-2008 10:38 AM

F1 GS-D3 is a Max Performance Summer [only] tire.

The F1 All Seasons are, wait for it ...... all seasons.

The F1 A/S also has a nice rash-protecting rubber lip.

I'm considering these as well. I'm about to price these locally and I was wondering what people have been paying for a set (mounted, disposal, etc.)?

I bought mine from Discount Tire Direct for $720 shipped, and this included valve stems. At the time, it beat Tire Rack's price, but I think they have a $50 rebate for Goodyears going on right now. You still have to pay extra for shipping though.

I haven't mounted them yet, so I don't have those prices for you. I wouldn't pay over $175 a tire locally, though.

I had to get these F1 all season tires while in IL in case it got snowy before I drove to FL. It started snowing the night I started driving to FL, so I'm glad otherwise I'd have no traction in that cold with stock summer tires.

There's a disturbing delay in steering response. I can't expect summer tire performance, but it feels much less sporty. I guess the F1 falls short on delivering sports-car performance in all-season package. There's always a tradeoff is the lesson I learned.
