ISC coilovers
 

So im just about to pull the trigger on the powertrix group buy. However I wanted to check out one other option. I went down to a local independently owned speed shop to talk about coilover options with them. I told him my budget and he offered this to me. They are called ISC N1.

I told him that I dont really like the idea of going with a suspension set that Ive never heard of. However on the flip side, I've never heard of powertrix before I joined this forum either. But from what I can see powertrix has a pretty good name around these parts.

He says that ISC is big among the EVO and WRX guys.

My question is, has anybody ever heard anything good, bad or indifferent about this brand?

edit: just found this in a wrx forum... doesn't sound good to me...

Apparently all these entry level coilover companies come from the same factory in asia. Ever notice they all have the same features? (32 clicks, pick your own spring rate, 1 year warranty, rebuildable/replaceable in USA).

Asia as a single exporter is rather vague; within Asia you have Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China as major exporters, to name a handful.

Judging a product based on it's country of origin can be problematic in itself; Apple's products are produced in China. From all exporters there are good and bad factories. Quality control from one country to another will differ on average, but it is still difficult to make any firm assumptions given the variety of standards.

Often, many see the quality of auto parts from China as the lowest tier, then comes Taiwan, then comes Korea, then comes Japan. This is largely based on cost of labor. However, do not be fooled and assume a part from Japan will trump it's counterpart from Taiwan - this is certainly not always the case. For example, many factories in Taiwan produce parts for USA domestic automotive manufacturers; many Japanese companies have products produced in Taiwan as well. It all comes down to quality control.

Yes true valid points. I cant really get into it without sounding political or just plain like an idiot but I really disapproved the idea of buying Chinese parts of that magnitude for my car. And Taiwan reminds me of the superbly cheap toys I had growing up that would break if you look at them wrong. I feel confident with Korea seeing as they have made a good name for themselves over the years in the american market. (Kia, Hyundai)

This is true and quite frankly almost sounds racist, However without proper knowledge about materials used and quality of production, What more can we really go on...

Friendly reminder is, a good set of just shocks and spring will be better than some cheap coilsovers. Many ppl thought coilsovers means the best. Hahahaha

To answer your 1st question, Yes I do know what I'm doing. What I'm doing is called research. Im looking up all the options and making and educated decision based on my findings.

To answer your 2nd question I don't NEED coilovers. I want coilovers so that I can stiffen up my spring rate while dialing in my dampening and simultaneously lowering my center of gravity. Things that will help me and my car be a contender this season in the STX class.

Dont' get me wrong. Not trying to troll or anything. but when it comes to "coilovers" it's either go all out, or just don't bother. Going some 1/2 ass coilover will just make it worst.

Had Stance, HKS, Now I'm on Ohlins. so yeah I think I know what I'm talking about.

for your case, you might want to give KW a shot. it should be able to do everything you want @ a very resonable price.(less than 1900) Too bad there is no Club-Sports version for Rx-8. Those are really good, should be as good as Ohlins. drove another car with Clubsports oh man I love it.

Just put my order in for the powertrix. We'll see how those do

hey the last post in this thread was back in 2012, on the mazdaspeed forum there are more recent posts of the ISC coilovers that say they have improved. does anyone have recent experience with these coilovers since early 2014 till now?


any answers will be appreciated, thanks.

With so many better options why would you even consider them?

well what's better out there that is still under $1000, the stance gr coilovers look amazing but they are a little out of my budget?

Just get whatever if you go cheap. You can't get anything with an above average quality for that budget. So either go cheap and ignore quality, or wait and keep saving for something better. You can't get both sides of the coin.

^ This. Everything south of $1500.00 is crap.

Necrobumping this thread just for fun after GSM just praised the heck out of these and installed them in their 350Z AutoX build. So, what's new on this front with cheap coilovers? Anything?
