How much difference in brake rotors?
 

So how much difference in stopping ability does changing the brake rotors actually make? Has anyone ever done any controlled tests with different rotors to see if there is actually a difference beyond brand name and appearance (cross-drilled, slotted, etc)? Inquiring minds want to know. :D

There are two different kinds of stopping ability. First time cold stop and repeated stops. Most modern brakes actually do a good job at cold stops. Upgrades like StopTech don't necessarily make your cold stops shorter but they do ensure consistent repeated stops. Street drivers don't need this; it's only when you're on the track that it becomes important.

And of course tires affect stopping distance and can mask brake performance.

The biggest difference comes into play with the slotted and cross drilling..this is where you'll see a gain in your repeated stops...the heat is able to be dissipated quicker...another factor is your 4POT and 6POT calipers...when doing an entire brake kit you need to purchase everything with a purpose...what kind of racing will you be doing and how much track time will you be seeing...

and whether your just replacing your rotors or the entire setup...know that cross-drilled and/or slotted rotors will decrease the life of your pads...

pretty much all of them will basically do the same...the components are relatively the same,..you factor in the R&D of each company and their reputation and that's where your price diffs are....Endless for one staggers their pistons in their calipers for even pad contact with the rotor..one reason they cost a bit high..Project Mu...well ghee they're one of the most well repected brake kit manufacturers in the Japan Tuner market...
