how do I know if I have a sports suspension or standard suspension????
 

hello i have a 05 mazda rx8. and my rotors and pads need to be replaced..... I am trying to buy them but they keep asking me if i have a sports suspension or standard supension???? ... does it matter???.... or how can i tell if i have a sports or standard??? i've call mazda and gave them my VIN number and they told me they don't know .... all they know is that it is a "touring package"..... any help???

You could always check on the rear sway bar for a yellow spray painted "dot." Yellow is sport, and red is, uh, regular or whatever.

I personally am not sure about the components of the '05 trim packages.

where is that again????... a sway bar?? where is that... i'm sorry for my stupidity....

i think you can also tell by your brakes (correct me someone if im wrong) but the standard suspension had same size front rear rotors where as the sports have bigger front ones.

well my rx8 is an automatic transmission.... do they come with a sports suspension?

I am sure that there is an easier way. There has got to be a list of what comes with each trim package for each year on this forum if you do some searching.

But, you can see the rear swaybar behind the rear suspension. It is attached to the knuckle (I think) on the rear via endlinks. The swaybar then runs across the rear of the car to the other side. The sport swaybars are beefier and are marked as such with a yellow dot.

I HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS IS EASY. Just one way to make sure. I am POSITIVE there is an easier way. I just dont know.

me too there's got to be an easier way... i've search every where and even called mazda which they don't know.... they say "all I can say is that it is a touring package"..... and somebody on top told me that "touring means sport"..... just came back from checkin the sway bar...... didn't see any yellow dot...

The difference between the sport and non sport brakes is that the front rotors are a different size. One sure way to determine which rotor you need is to simply measure it. Sport should be about 12.72 inches and the non sport would be 11.93 inches. The next and probably easiest way is if you have manual 6 speed transmission, then you would have the sport suspension. Automatic transmission users will probably have to check if their sway bar has a yellow or red mark. You can check for the mark on the sway bar which is just behind the passenger side tire, you can see it by turning the wheel all the way to the right. If it is yellow then it is a sport.

it's ironic (at least in the US) that it's referred to as sport and standard considering the only model that has the "standard" is cheap 2004/2005 auto that came with 16" wheels.... far from standard from a sheer population perspective.
