Handling on Snow
 

I was wondering what experiences were handling the 8 in snow, assuming one has good snow tires. I have driven FWD cars for the last 14 years and wonder what I can expect from a RWD car. The fact that is balanced 50/50 would seem to help all around, but I'd like to hear from others.

With appropriate winter tires the car handles great and you should have no problem with RWD. Traction and stability control on the car also help under winter conditions. There's a lot of information previously posted on the board that you'll find helpful, try the search function.

It handles fine in the snow with winter tires. Check out some threads from last year in the Canada forum.

I have all seasons and it handled fine today on ice/packed snow. Sure the ABS gets very busy when you hit the brakes and one should not do sudden moves on ice, but definately gets you home (or where you are going) at 40 mph on icy hills... Also, keep it in lower gear.

Which all season tires do you have?

I have snow tires on and it handles better than any FWD car I have owned.

I can't tell about real snow yet, but I just drove 1900 km on cold & wet roads, including some melting snow, with Bridgestone Blizzak LM 25 (225/45 V - stock size on stock rims) tires.

Grip is much better than with summer tires and I have experienced significantly less railroading problems on cold (1-6 °C) and wet roads so far.

The funny thing with the stock rims is that people are looking at the car and obviously consider me insane to go without winter tires on a RWD sports car. The difficult thing was to get the tires though, took me two weeks to find a vendor that managed to get them in the required size.
