Getting some new rims! Question on offset???

ok so im planning on getting some new rims and using my current tires fromt he 18" alloy rims that come stock i know the size is 18x8.5 and bolt pattern is 5x114.3 what about the offset i dont even know what offset is and i dont know which offset i need for the rims to fit my tires and to fit the 8? The options for the rims im getting are +13,15,20,25,32,35,38,40 which of these should i get to fit my current tires?

Thanks for the help

Stock tire is 18x8, not 8.5. But 8.5 will fit. The stock offset is +50.

Im not expert on offset, but I know the 13/15/20/25 wont fit. Best bet is the +40 or +38.

Maybe someone else will jump in and add some clarity.

yes, stock wheels are 18x8, offset 50mm

offset is the distance between the centerline of the wheel and the mounting surface

the lower you go with offset, the further outboard the centerline of the wheel goes

if you're changing both width and offset from stock, you're moving the centerline of the wheel and adding half the width change on each side of the wheel...using that logic, you can approximate how far the inboard and outboard edges of your wheel move relative to an oem wheel.
