Falken GRB FK-451 Tires - My personal take

Ok all I've finally finished my "testing" of my new Falken GRB FK-451 tires and here are my conclusions:

Purchased: 4 Falken GRB FK-451 245/40/18
Mounted: Stock Rims
Previous Tires: Stock Bridgestone Potenzas

1. 451's ride better than stock. They really take out some of the bumps.

2. 451's are quieter than stock. I thought they would be louder just based on the tread design, but they appear to be quieter.

3. 451's DO NOT have as much traction at stock.

4. 451's traction IS more predictable than stock.

I spent the weekend in the Texas Hill Country really pushing the tires through some corners that I have been through on the stock tires and know very well. I found that the only way to go the same speed through those corners on the 451's versus the stock tires, was to be extremely smooth, and even then, I was 2 to 3 miles per hour slower. Now, this difference was mid corner. My biggest surprise with the tires is how predictable they are. The Potenza's allowed me step the vehicle out very easily and slide some, but once they let go they went. It was very difficult to feel when they were ready to let go. The 451's, however, allowed me to step the vehicle out a little more and control it much easier. Their feedback is amazing. I know exactly when they are ready to let go, and when they do it's not difficult to get them back with only the slightest change.

Overall, I am extremely impressed and happy with the Falken's and would recommend them to anyone. It's also nice that it only cost me 650.00 for all 4 !! And they will last twice as long as the Potenzas :)

Carry on,
David

It was actually $650.00 for all 4 installed at Discount Tire. They had to order them from Arizona. Online I found them for just under $600.00, but then I would have had to install them.

Is the 245 width still OK then on the stock rims? I thought most people are using 235/45/18 when going aftermarket. The 245/40/18 is almost exactly the same diameter and circumfence as stock but I was worried about it being a tad bit too wide for the factory rims...
Any difference in steering effort or feel?

I have the falken 451s and I love them. I used 245/40/18 for my 18x8.5 wheels and they seem to fit nicely

I have 245/40/18 on my stock 18x8 wheels and they are fine.
