Fake TMPS Canister/Pipe Bomb

I know it was tried before on your cars.

And unsuccessful, but was browsing the clublexus forum for my frd. and came across this....

http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328044

Interesting....Seems like this works for the is.

I don't understand why it wouldn't work to fool our TMPS for us with the aftermarket wheels, that don't accept TMPS.

Good point!

LOL....I don't think you would put it on your passenger seat...

That's a bit concerning. I would think you need all four.

He only shows one, but he mentions putting "all" of the sensors into the *pipe bomb *.. Interesting approach to solve the problem.

Based on the time and cost how is this better than black tape? The TPMS in our cars also sense wheel speed, this cannot work for us.

I believe all four are inside the canister. The stem you see on the outside presurizes the whole canister.

You could also put all your sensors in your spare tire, but I wouldn't plan on using it in the event of a flat.

I was not aware of that. For what purpose?

To extend the life of the internal batteries the units go on when they hit a certain speed.

I m not into the whole black tape thing...

I'm sure alot of people won't like putting a piece of black tape over their dash.

I believe the IS ones are said to have speed sensor on them too.....They still work..

MazdaManiac 01-07-2008 09:42 PM

It wouldn't work.
Our TPMS has inertial sensors for tire rotation.

mysql101 01-07-2008 09:45 PM

yeah, you'd need to bolt the canister to your alternator so it's spinning.

I rarely notice it and doesn't leave any marks.

I'd guess that any time you accelerate, brake or turn, these sensors would be tripped. Accelerometers really don't care what causes the acceleration.

expo1 01-08-2008 07:23 AM

By the way this was tried about two years ago

Looking for some bolts and moving the battery now.

NotAPreppie 01-08-2008 09:28 PM

The reason for the accelerometers is to keep the sensors from working while the car is NOT in motion (since most cars spend the majority of their lives not moving).

Going around 10MPH, the accelleration on the sensors in the wheels will be about 2g on average (1g at the top and 3g at the bottom.) It's very possible that these sensors would need sustained accelleration over 1g to work.
