also, i am under the impression that going down to 17" rims increases acceleration by 1. lowering overall weight and 2. decreasing rotational distance.

but they say these buddy club p1 qf are only 16.1lbs for 18x10 which you could run all 4 corners of they make the right offset

17's will most likely help acceleration but you can play with a tire that has a smaller overall diameter which essentially affects acceleration by creating a lower gear ratio which will help the car accelerate but reduce its top speed

its true, RPF1 FTW. i only replied about the buddy clubs cuz he only asked if there was anything lighter. for the price, you cant beat RPF1

yup, they definetly are a great wheel...I like them so much I have two sets.

I agree, these are great wheels. As far as the 17" wheel Q, I got a nice email from Brian Goodwin in which he explained trade-offs. I had asked about the trades with 18s vs. 17s because of the better pricing on both wheels (not always a big savings, tho) and tires (often a big savings). Now, if you are into autox or track days in a big way and happy pouring money into your hobby, this won't maybe mean much to you. Anyway, Brian said that they like to run 18" for racing because, "we can get the most rubber on the track with 18" tires/wheels." On the other hand, said he, with 17" you get effectively lower gearing, which I would like in my torque-starved RX-8 6-speed for stronger acceleration, exiting corners and such (and slight loss in top-end speed, but how often are you attempting to crack 145 mph on your daily commute?). Also, Brian said that the smaller size will allow us to install high-performance springs, shocks, coil-overs, sway bars, etc. and lower our cars--all contributing to better handling/cornering, while retaining the nice ride of the RX-8. These same mods on the stock size will contribute to a harsher ride. This is true of any car, not just the 8. The one down side is smaller wheels limit options for larger brakes. But again, unless you routinely do some truly fierce "enthusiast" driving or race on the track, I do not see this as an issue. Most handling-oriented sport driving is less dependent on beefed up brakes than on tricked-out handling capability. And really, if you are driving on so hard on civilian asphalt that you need carrier-deck stopping power, well, should we? As always, just my opinion, guided by others smarter than me. Good luck.
