Dunlop SP super sport r-compound tires
 

Has anyone run these? I don't expect they will be as good as Hoosiers or Kuhmo's, but they are so much cheaper that I was thinking they might be interesting. It seems like everything I have heard so far about these has been very positive or very negative. My rep at Tire rack said he had heard very good things about them so far, but I personally have heard bad things.

I'm looking for a tire that will be significantly faster than the RE040's and hopefully last a whole seaons of autox. I run in b-stock, so I'm limited to 225-40-18. I tried to get in on the AS304 blowout, but Tire Rack sold them all out on Monday (at $152!). I don't have much experience with r-compounds, so I figure unless I can get Hoosiers really cheap, they would be a waste. I'd just like to get some impressions of how the Dunlop compares to the Kuhmo's and Hoosiers. How much time would an expert driver be giving up on these versus Hoosiers?

And you can use any tire size that fits on the OEM wheels, so look for
245/35/18 Hoosiers.

That link lists the minimum wheel width for the 245/35/18s as 8.5. The stock 8 rims are 8 inches right? Do you know if thats a typo?

Has anyone here sucessfully mounted the 245/35/18 hoosiers on stock size wheels? I don't think the a3s04s are in my budget for this season (I am running in novice afterall), but I'll be lookin to get that size 05s at the beginning of next season I imagine.

The 245/35/18 tires are an excellent fit for the OEM wheels. I know several
people who use the 245's with no problems.

I have the 275/35/18 tires on my OEM wheels but that is about as big a tire
as I would want to mount on them. Autocrossers tend to put bigger and bigger
tires on wheels until the tires no longer work, then they back off. :)

i just got the dunlop sp supersport race tires in size 245/35/18 for my stock rims. I just put them on a couple of days ago and i am going to use them for autocross for the first time this sunday. ill let u know how they do. as for using them on the street, they seem to perform very well.

I ran my first event with the Dunlops yesterday. I accidently put them on backwards, but I don't think it has too much effect when its dry. I won my class, but competition was light. I haven't seen the PAX times yet, so I really can't compare how much faster the tires made me.

They heated up well after my first run. They felt relatively progressive, altho understeer happened quicker when the limits were exceeded than stock. Of course, the overall limits are higher I think. I ran 38 cold all-around which came up to about 40-42 after 2 runs. I dropped the front to 37 to try to counter the understeer tendencies I was getting, but it didn't make any difference. I think I will try running alot softer pressures at the next event, like 32 cold.

i also used these tires last weekend unshaved for the first time. i was very happy with their results, especially for the cost. they perform much better than the michlin pilot sport ps2's i have on my car, which are also great tires, but not r-compound. i only wish i would have gotten 255/35/18 instead of 245/35/18. well, i won my class for the scca solo2 event so i am pretty happy with the results. i started with a 36psi cold all around which went to about 40 when they warmed up. eventually i lowered them to around 36 front 34 back warm to stop the oversteer. this worked much better. the full tread wasnt being used with the higher pressure. i will definately buy these tires again but in 255's next time. i was also using my stock 18x8 rims with these.
