Bumping and grinding
1 Attachment(s)
Just picked up a 2008 with 18x245s on the rear. When a passenger rides in rear seat, I get tire bumping the inside of the rear fender flare. Body is stock. Is this usual for tires that wide? I've seen some guys here running 255s on the rear. What r u doing to stop the bumping? Thanks. :wallbash:

Clarifification: The edge of the fender flare actually hits the tire, not the inside of the fender flare. It hasn't hurt the tires... yet. But it's annoying. If I don't have passengers, then no problem, no rubbing/bumping.

stock is 225's all around, looks like you got some rims that have some mean offset on em...with those rims i think ur gonna have to stretch the tire out (smaller tire) and roll ur fender

I see what you mean now. Never thought of it like that. Rolling the fender means doing something with the plastic trim, too, because that's hitting as well. Maybe I should buy narrower rims for the rear and use 225s "all around" like you say.
Thanks for the good advice so far. |
i dont think its hitting the plastic trim, ur just rubbing ur tire against the metal part of the inside of the fender, this is what people mean when they talk about "rubbing".

Okay. So is there a good method to folding the inner lip up so it doesn't mess up the fender's appearance on the outside? I had an old Chevy I did this on, but it wasn't as pretty as my 8. By the way, I work in Garden Grove. I'd love to see your car sometime if we could meet up somewhere.

you can rent a fender roller and do it yourself, or take it to a shop that will roll them for you. another option you have is add a little more negative camber in the rear to angle the top of the wheel in more towards the inside of the fender and not have to roll your fenders.
