Anyone know of a company that makes decent ones for a decent price ? and where they can be bought ?

r1concepts...they're on eBay...but you can contact them directly...i have their premium zinc plated rotors...but just slotted...holes in your plates can kill ya!! :D

I have had the racingbrake two piece rotors on my car for a few weeks and I have not noticed any rust. I live in Chicago so the roads are salted on regular basis. I know time will only tell but the stock rotors rusted immediately. Hope that helps. |

I park my car next to a 330i, Audi TT and a Porsche 911 at work and my rotors are embarassing. |

If you go to the RacingBrake rotor page link I listed earlier, you can see that there are two different finishes, depending on which rotor you choose. The silver hub ones are nickel plated, the ones with the black hubs have their unique EDP finish Rotor is subject to rust and most rotors are not protected against corrosion in early years, it’s not uncommon to see a rusty rotor in a car dealer’s brand new show car. When we started our performance line about four years ago, we tried and experimented various surface coatings, and found EDP (Electro-Deposition Paint) gives optimal result in durability and cost. Not only does EDP provide lasting protection against corrosion (about 500 hours salt spray test, vs. common bright zinc plating of 100 hours), it has appearing black look, more importantly it’s environmentally friendly unlike the competition using cadmium or gold zinc plating this metal coating process uses hexavalant chromium. |
The hardest part of the install was removing the screws holding the front rotors on. This hurdle is easily overcome by having the correct tools. I used an impact tool to get my screws out (I am sorry I don't know it's specific name). They are fairly cheap and they sell them at NAPA. It is essentially a bit holder, which is built such that when you impact the end with a hammer it turns the bit while driving the bit into the screw thus preventing the screw from stripping.

yep, without an impact screwdriver you are SOL on removing those screws. Fortunately I bought a cheapo several years back. Don't use it often, but it's saved my butt the few times I needed it.

Thanks for the link. I used one that had been sitting in my fathers garage for some 15 or 20 years. It was in such a state that it would reverse direction on me after one hit and tighten the screw. Your right you won't use it that often but if you need it and don't have it you will kick yourself for not spending the 10 or so dollars to have it handy.

Yes, I installed it the first weekend after delivery. It has not given me any trouble as of yet although it was a bit more difficult to bleed than the conventional brakes. My next tool purchase is going to be a power bleeder for sure.
