Brake caliper position

Does anyone know why the RX-8's brake calipers are positioned in their respective places?

Production cars always go to the front or rear of the disk, rather than top or bottom as some racers do. With the RX-8s positioning with the front calipers at the rear of the disk, and the rear calipers at the front of the disk, they will contribute to a lower overall polar moment of inertia for the vehicle than with the front calipers to the front of the disk and the rear calipers to the rear of the disk. That's the only reason I could come up with offhand!

Gordon

How does caliper position affect braking?

Not much, but it does affect dynamic suspension alignment.

Bizarre.... I was just wondering today why cars have the calipers positioned differently..... Rotary God, where are you to shed light on this?
